In terms of scale, Mogadishu is on the level of Addis Ababa, Hargeisa is on the level of Dire Dawa.
If it sobers the khat kids up, I did a google round-up. Addis Ababa is roughly 55km perimeter, Xamar is around 45km perimeter including all the suburbs outlying the city, while Hargeisa is only around 13km perimeter.
The idea that Hargeisa is growing faster than Xamar is also a joke. Ceelasha Biyaha was built 3 years ago and easily doubles Hargeisa's population.

---Every time a war breaks out in Xamar the entire population of Hargeisa vacates the city, and this has happened multiple times.
Muqdisho is growing at a retarded rate, there are areas of Xamar today bigger than Hargeisa that did not exist just 2 years ago. They need to realize that while growth in Hargeisa is limited to a few circles, growth in Xamar is still a multinational affair.
People in general tend to vastly underestimate the massive wealth accumulated by Hutus during the civil war. These guys throw around money like its candy.
