You misunderstood. I agree with Oliveoil but not on the qabiil thing but generally the Somalis who want to act Western is not "reer magaal" in the sense of sophistication and cosmopolitanism but taking all the negative urban culture. Even in Western culture if you notice the educated real "reer magaal" the others call them "elite" while the urban culture Oliveoil is describing is not considered sophisticated.

p.s. In my opinion I think the group who most fit into what OliveOil said are the reer Xamar (not cad-cadka but "reer magaalki" hore of all qabiils in Xamar). These former "ciyaalka xaafada" are the least sophisticated culturally of any Somali migrants. I just laugh when a former reer Xamar calls other Somalis "reer baadiye". What is reer magaal? Qamri, habro 50 years acting more school-agish than 15 year old girls, and all the negative excesses of the West's inner cities? It is like there wasn't an evolution of culture back in Xamar but a transplant of the West's separate inner urban culture.

I swear I reckon most somalis thought we were the most close to the Somali dhaqan out there. Because regardless of where are we adore the Somali language, heeso iyo dhaanto. Take me as an example for instance I rather crunk up old qaraami song and find it enjoyable than Hip/hop or rap or any other foreign music.
