Socotra is within the 200 nautical miles of Somali water territory. The TFG has already sent an appeal to UN by claiming socotra.

Coeus wrote:^Look at this loser. Waryaa the island according to UN already belongs to Somalia. What world do you live in? Russians own japanese islands. America owns hatitian and latino islands. Denmark owns greenland. Shut the fuck up and stop sucking up to yemenis. There is a good amount of Somalis living in Socotra, but in the recent decade, the yemen goverment has intentionally forced arabs immigrate to socotra. This is the same country that fought with Eritrea over other Islands. And eventually lost them when their ass was handed to them. Yemen just claims what it wants.
Do you people write for the sake of writing?? There is no such thing in the UN recognizing the island of socotra belonging to a country it was never part of. Forget now. The same UN as well as the rest of the world recognize Socotra as part of Yemen. Independent Somalia never even disputed it until the the confused news couple weeks ago from the weak TFG. It is has never been part of any Somali ruled administrations from medieval to colonial to independent and the people are a South Arabian people who share affinities with other South Arabian people in Yemen. They are not even Arab and nor do Arabs live there. They are Soqotri and speak a Semitic language close to other south Arabian languages distinct from Arabic but close in Yemen.

Socotra was never part of independent Somalia, was part of the British protectorate in Yemen, and prior was always ruled by Yemeni sultanates.

The Dahlak islands which Eritrea and Yemen fought for were always disputed and most of the people are Beni-Amer, a tribe of the Beja people in Eritrea and Sudan. Dadkaan baan la yaabay. All focking ignorant.

There are no Somali natives in Socotra. The whole island has couple thousand people all of whom are Soqotri. Socotra was once under the Mahra sultanate of Yemen (among many other sultanates) and few Carab Saalax (so-called Somali Mahri Ismaaciil) immigrating to Somalia does not say anything about Socotra but about Somalia itself where some Mahri (themselves different people speaking a different South Arabian language which is close to Soqotri) migrated.

It is like Yemen claiming Puntland because some Mahra went there when the case isn't even same with Somalia because no Somalis have history in Socotra.

Anybody can make a claim to anything. They are wasting their time. Dad aan afaaro kula lahayn baad xoog ku qasban. Well good luck. I doubt it would even be taken seriously by one of the lowest UN bureaucratic offices.

And Island Somalis have no history in and claim to:
The islands passed under the control of the Mahra sultans in 1511, but eventually became a British protectorate in 1886, and it became an important strategic stop-over for British shipping in the area. It was an important air base for the British in World War two, and the remains of the main airfield can be seen inland from Suq. Some 10 British airmen are buried on cemetery hill near the Mori airfield, and all these were all killed in crashes during World War 2. A German U boat scuttled a dhow off Qalansiya, and was apparently sunk by later action of the air force. With the independence of South Yemen from the British in 1969, the islands came under the southern government of the Democratic Republic of Yemen, and then after unification with the north in 1990, the island came under the governance of the new Republic of Yemen.

i dont know if you visited makula, yemen , once they know you somali they tell you there are many somalis (majerteen, with funny pronunciation)
that's why after civil war many majerteen clan went to makula to get their papers to get yemani citizen. i even remember my uncle told me in makula you just say im majerteen and you can get citizen easily.

Ideally I would love to see Socotra under Somalia, turned into the world biggest tourist destination and plant zoo (lol) but since our ancestors weren't seafarers, the Island does not belong to us. We could have some influence due to proximity but I cant envision ever being governed from Mogadishu.

Anywho we should clean up our house before looking at our backyard.
