The only civilized people I ever saw in Somalia happened to be the "minority" clans. In Baraawe, families kept records of their geneology along with ancient recipes, stories about their arrival to Somalia, etc. Everything was meticulously documented & well preserved including who loaned what to another family 50 years before. Very advanced people, both in Marka & Baraawe. Not receptive to outsiders, but once you get to know them, it quickly becomes apparent how developed & civilized they are, including their cuisine. Special pans used to exist for making every dish, and they could make fish in to a dozen or so dishes without much of a hassle. Impressive and honorable people. Someday inshallah, I pray Marka & Baraawe are restored to what they used to be.

I would love to live long enough to see the old Marka & Baraawe I knew, inshallah. Also travel to Jilib, Jamaame, Gees Gaduud, Cagaaran, etc. Probably some of the most hard-working & honorable Somalis live in those regions. Peace loving citizens who abstained from the blood-shed & instead chose to live as subsistence farmers, eating only what they grew. Blessed lands, with wonderful Somalis. I will always hold those memories of visiting those regions as a child close to heart. Its unfortunate that they couldn't be saved from the animals that descended on them. Maybe someday they will have their chance.

After reading HaldDzed's posts I can easily picture similarities among Baraawe, and Borame people. Though they live in opposite poles of Somalia(a bit far from each other) they are wonderful, peaceful, hardworking and most civilized citizens who decided to grow with out looting properties, lands and wealth of some else. It's promising to consider like these areas if one intends to go back and live among a society that has fundamental qualities of neighborhood such as friendship, respect, and helpfulness. From personal experience, I found Borame people more civilized, friendly, helpful and respectful.

Kambuli, glad you agree with me on the good Samaroon people. :D

Waryaa, the origins and evolution of the Somalis is between unknown to uncertain. As you suggested I will leave it for the crazy historians to figure out.

Ahmedgurey, prolly you're right. Lawaaxe went to that university to study Arabic language, poetry and Islamic philosophy. :P

Given the right set of circumstances any human being can socially devolve to adopt animal like mannerism.

There no human beings alife that lacks the potential for social devolution and barbarism.

All that is needed is to deprive any given individual basic needs: Food, security and a function in society add a little bit of lack of sleep and hey presto you have a potential mass murderer on your hands. Cultured traits are therefore not premanent or set characteristic of a human being.
