Asalamu caleykum,

Only in the west you will find guys like Hamza yusuf taken as religious authority, as they say in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king. When you build people up to such a high position you are bound to be disappointed. Im not just talking about Hamza yusuf, the same could be said for those who take people with a bachelors degree from jamicatul medina as 'Scholars'. 'Scholarship' has become an easy title walahi.

Wacaleykum salam,

Did he say anything in that video that you do not agree with or that you believe a "proper scholar" would disagree with?

Hamza yusuf is qualified scholar, even if he is a sufi asharite.

Im not talking about his aqeedah, how can you say he is a scholar can you refer me to his works ? what kutuub has he written, what shuruux ?. the same applies for others such as yasir qadhi and the whole al-maghreb group aswell. I dont have to agree with someone to recognize their scholarships, examples are Sheekh Yusuf qaradwi, Taqi Uthmani etc.

So i ask again what are his credentials, for him to be taken as an Caalim, other then he went mauritania for a few years.
