It still is. Mogadishu is the only city that international observers care about.

Other marginal developments are nice, but Mogadishu is still the big dog.

You'll see one day, when one entity takes control...

shabaab could take over all of mogadishu tonight and it would not make them the sole ruling power in somalia. mogadishu is important but saying that somalia=mog and mog=somalia is going too far.

No it isn't going too far. You control Mogadishu, you effectively control Somalia.

Shabab or whoever took it over would have control over the biggest port of the country, the biggest airport, they'd have the international community come back... are you kidding me?

There is a reason why it is a capital city and had the ICU focused solely on Benadir area, we may have a Somalia today..

Absolutely ridiculous.

The ICU was a clan-based group with a taint of radicalism. They had no direction for the country, just look at their Don, Sheikh Shariif, did you really want that kind of man leading the country? His second in command was Aweys who was an extremist with strong clan leanings. Like Waryaa said, these guys were on the verge of attacking Gaalkacyo for no reason other than clan. The best thing that ever happened to Somalia was this group getting dissolved. The country was better off immediately after the ICU's collapse and will be better off in the long run no doubt. Good riddance. What a bad time in Somali politics when the political and clan agenda was being woven with religion, I remember every warlord and drug peddler was waving cimaamad and kitaab for their own purposes, what an utter joke those guys made of the culture and religion. They will never return, and the feces known as Al-Shabaab they've left in the country will be wiped away soon.

Curse Abdullahi Yusuf for what?

No it wasn't Abdullahi Yusuf who made fortunes from the free following waters of the Shabelle River nor did he ravaged Baidoa and its surrounding agriculture in the early 90s. But like your slow kin folk who like to go under the radar on anything that might anger the short fused Hawiye or the gun wielding Ilkoyar your rather throw stones at unnecessary directions.

Yeah we know the likes of Indha-adde, Aydiid and Siad Barre are blessed. I see another Adan Madobe in the making, always quick to appease his abusers.

its called the Stockholm syndrome!!

In psychology, Stockholm syndrome is a term used to describe a real paradoxical psychological phenomenon wherein hostages express empathy and have positive feelings towards their captors; sometimes to the point of defending them. These feelings are generally considered irrational in light of the danger or risk endured by the victims, who essentially mistake a lack of abuse from their captors as an act of kindness
