Shirib
I am anti Assad for the same reason that I am anti Mubarak, Salah, Saud, Gaddafi etc. not because he is Alawi, but because they are ruthless dictators that need to disposed of.
I beg to differ . The al Sauds are royals , just like the Windsors of GB or the Orange Nassau of Holland . Now I understand they are an absolute monarchy unlike the Europeans but that doesn't take their legitimacy away , in my opinion. Qaddafi , Ali Abdalah Salah , Al Assad are on the other hand dictators , a different animal .
Everybody like to talk shi.t about the al Sauds , laakin king Abdallah is moving his country forward , albeit at a Saudi pace .I support him .

Is being called king supposed to give u anymore legitimacy? Asad, got the thrown from his father, and if he keeps power, his son will become President, they're system is no different. Only difference, is one has the title President and other King. So please do tell, what's the difference? You can make arguments that Assad and Gaddafi were moving their countries forward as well. Hell Hitler moved Germany forward through leaps and bounds

The ruling government is trying to stay in power by any means necessary, THAT'S what's happening.

Yes !

Taarikh . Read the history of Syria , since the early days of Islam they've alwalys been ruled by an ahlu bayt .After the defeat of the Ottomans the French threw out the Hashemi king that was supposed to continue history. Anyway to make along story short , the country endured a succession of military coups d'etat of which Hafez al Assad's was the latest . Qaddafi took out King Idris precisely because he opposed monarchy , therefore cannot on that basis line up his son to replace him . Everything is about taariikh

Sahan,

Assad family has ruled Syria since 1971. Hafez died and his son became Prime Minister, and when Assad dies his son will become ruler. It stays in the family just like it does in Saudi Arabia.

Mubarak's son was to become President after his death before he was disposed and Say Al Islam was to be the next leader of Libya.

Its the same thing, one doesn't become more legitimate because his title is King.

Bashar al-Assad is the only man keeping Syria from becoming a extreme conservative Muslim country that doesn't allow non-muslims to live in peace.

Thats why I support him.

Are there any Christians or Druze protesting? They know Bashar al-Assad is good for them.

If Bashar al-Assad goes, so does everyone who isn't a Sunni Muslim.

so if they start protesting you will consider the protest legitimate ?

I am for the people, regardless if they are Sunni, Shia, Christian, Druze or anything else.

I want people to be able to live in peace regardless what religion or ethnicity they are.

Shirib , Hafez al Assad was head of the Baath party when he came to power .It is a political party like the Republicans or the Democrats here in the US . You don't see Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton appointing their kids as their successors do you ?
There is a difference , if you don't see it so be it .

We are comparing dictators and monarchies, not the a democracy like the US.

Baath party is the only party that is really allowed to exist in Syria, and power is passed on from father to son. How is this different than a monarchy?

If BasharAl Assad changes his title to King of Syria will he be more legitimate?
