For a nation with great resources (Oil& Gas) and which inherited a strong educated populace, the Iranian gang that currently rules that country has systematically screwed and placed Iran in a very dangerous position. Throughout the 90s, Iran had an ample opportunity to modernize and develop their military; instead, because of their laughable Persian Pride, they turned Russian offers to buy weapons & sat through that entire decade. The current comic theatrics of the Mullah to celebrate the re-painting of American F-5 fighter jets and North Korean No-Dong Missiles as a great technological achievement shows the backward mentality of Iranian leadership. Making a satellite, especially the small scale one that Iran is boosting about is nothing glorious. Throughout the world, local college students make similar products.
Iran is held hostage by a gang of mullahs whose survival depends on misinformation and sensationalism. This is why they have to claim that they invented a technology that can correctly alter the trajectory of the enemy missile. It's these sorts of bombastic claims that makes Iran the laughing stock of the world.
There is nothing wrong with Iran buying defense technologies while it is also developing its indigeneous defense industry. Keep in mind this is a country that has gone through eight years of invasions sponsored by the west thru its proxy--Saddam. This is also a country that has gone under economic and military sanctions since the turn of the Islamic revolution. learning know-how from North Korea is much preferrable than starting from scratch. All of the nations in the world went thru similar evolutions when they were developing their local industries. Even Bill Gates stated, "the top 200 scientists and engineers in the USA are immigrants." The guys who setup the first Atomic atomic bombs were Jewish imimigrants from Europe. So, if Iran buys and learns technical know-how from North Korea or Russia, there is really nothing wrong with it.
The current mullahs are much better than the Shah. That dictator, Shah, had a policy of eliminating every Iranian scientist, his spy agency was run by Israelis, and he has provided free oil to Israel when it was at war with Arabs in 1967. Iran under Shah would never have been an Islamic country.
