Exec No actually. The "community" I speak of were businessmen, teachers, professionals who just happened to be Hawiye and living in Mogadishu. I know some people were told of stories of all the Hawiyes engaging in warfare but fact of the matter is it was a handful of men and their mooryaan.

The problem arises when you disagree with everything that doesn't fit in neatly with your preconceived notions. Assuming something is false just because it is not what you believe is staying stagnant and never moving forward.

The man was asked by his religious elders to defend the city. He obliged but then got back stabbed later. He got angry and fought. Absolute destruction. The end.

AbdiWahab252 wrote:Aidid (AUN) was too much of a principled softie. He made several great errors:

1. Declared his intentions on January 27, 1991 - He should have gone on Radio Mogadishu and declared himself interim President.

2. Not being shrewd with the Hawiye - He should have not rescued the Hawiye backstabbers when the Darood made a come back. If the Hawiye chose Ali Mahdi, he should have left their defense to Ali Mahdi. He was naive to accept the offer from the Hawiye elders to defend the city from the Darood without asking formally for Ali Mahdi to renounce his claim to be President.

3. Investing in Issaq - He wasted great resources trying to mend the rift between Hawiye and Issaq after Ali Mahdi's provocative declaration to be President. If the Issaq went for independence and backed out of the plan to subjugate the Northern Daroods, he should have simply in investing more into reconciling with the Harti. This would have left him with enough resources to subjugate the South.

4. Being too soft on the Hawiye - Aideed was a softie. When Ali Mahdi attacked his house, he should have gone for total war and not relented until the Abgaal sued for peace. He then should have brought all the Hawiye and asked them who opposed him. He instead trying to appease all the rival clans to build a Pax Hawiye which he believed would counter Jebertism. He should have started with Abgaal, then gone on to the Xawadle, Murusade until they all recognized his authority.

5. Opposed the UN Intervention of 1992 - He could have finished his war campaign by Spring 1992 and made treaties with the vanquished Daroods. He then should have created a zero tolerance for any antigovernment activities such as looting of food aid. If the UN were going to come in, they would be working with his government and no one else.

6. Struck a deal with Ethiopia on the Ogaden - Meles offered him a deal to finish off all of his opponents in the South and bring back the North, if Aidid formally relinquished Somalia's claim to the Ogaden. With Meles help, there would have been no SSDF, SNF, etc.

Aidid was also very unfortunate that he was born of a Naive tribe, numerous in number, few in intelligence. He also made the misfortune of having too many enemies: Somali and Western. His principles and vision to seeing a democratic Somalia with elections and multiple political parties was way beyond what Somalis were ready for in 1991. The Somalis wanted another Siyaad Barre and he should have done a Siyaad Barre.

Allahu Naxaristo Mujahid Caydiid.
Basically both Caydiid and the SNM strike a deal to subjugate Darood clan and in particular the Harti up north... well there you have it folks, the answer to Waryaa's question.

Aideed was not a fighter, he was a politician. He was winning because of his right hand man Shabelle. Shabelle was a brave, strong, but recklesss. When Shabelle was killed in battlle Aideed didn't want to tell his army. According to Magool she helped hide and bury Shabelle's body with Aideed so the army wouldn't find out. But finally they had to confess that Shabelle was dead. Shabelle was the heart of the army so when he died that was the end...............

There is myth Aideed is still alive somewhere. And that he escaped the carnage of Mogadishu on a water-vendor's donkey. I heard it while I was in Hargeisa on holiday some few years back.

I received two copies from the man himself. He was a very pleasant, soft spoken man. I would say that he and MSB were a cut above the next generation of unprincipled vagabonds who claim to be politicians.

Do not ever put that Mooryaan and the late President in the same sentence. The Xashiish You're having right now in Xamar which causes You to utter such nonsense fresh out of Cusman Caato's farms was the legacy Your Mahdi left behind. You cannot even make Yourself believe such nonsense.
