Their interests intersect, but there are limits to this which are purely logistical. The govt, the Americans, the Saudis( who control the border) are all allied against such a move. The Iranians would likely be interested in arming them if they had the capacity to, but considering the situation it is literally impossible to envision how they could arm them. They Houthis region is landlocked and the chances that Iran could arm them through Saudi territory or through the air ( which the Americans and Saudis extensively monitor and control) is beyond farfetched. Saleh has been claiming he has evidence of Iran arming them for years but everytime people ask him to show its *crickets*. Trust me, considering the IC's stance against Iran, if there was any proof it would be plastered everywhere and brought to the U.N. etc, like it has with Hezbollah and Hamas.Alphanumeric wrote:I disagree. Yes, the leaders in Iran and the Zaydis in Yemen may have ideological differences, but their end goals are one; limiting the Saudi/American stronghold in the region. And I still believe they support the opposition (at least the Shias) with arms. But I will say Yemen is an interesting case with several armed opposition groups.Jaidi wrote:Alphanumeric wrote:In support of Saraxnow's argument, I will propose Yemen.This actually supports my argument. Saraxnow you are a lost cause if you believe the Houthis are funded by Iran
The Zaydi Shias in Yemen are not hardcore like most of the Shias and they do not even identify with Iran religiously. They also used to traditionally rule their own kingdom, so they've always opposed Saleh and the govt because they wanted autonomy like they've usually had in their history. Its a local/tribal war not a religious one. Saleh actually manipulated the Saudis and used their Iran phobia to get their support( funny thing is Saleh is Zaydi himself
)
Time for Saudi kingdom to face the heat too!

I have no dog in this fight, and I'm not gonna support either blindly. In some instances I support Iran and in others Saudi. Both have obvious agendas and both use propaganda, however the truth is somewhere in the middle.Saraxnow wrote:Jaidi wrote:Alphanumeric wrote:In support of Saraxnow's argument, I will propose Yemen.This actually supports my argument. I know the Zaidis, but Iran supports them nonetheless out of dislike for the Saudis.
The ME is messed up but which hegemon do you lean to the most?
If I was Palestinian I'd definitely support Iran over Saudi though and many Palestinians are also pragmatic in this.

Perhaps you're right. May simply be an attempt to justify the murderous rampage throughout the region. This was my original perspective. But I wouldn't put it past psychopaths of any sort to move arms in and out regions and go unnoticed.
Re: Time for Saudi kingdom to face the heat too!
On the Palestinians yes. But if I was a regular resident in the ME,in general I would agree more with Saudi and on foreign issues I would be more Iranian.
Re: Time for Saudi kingdom to face the heat too!
If I was Khaleeji of course Saudi. Egypt is big enough to engage both and not be controlled by them. Syria I'd also probably lean to Saudi. Yemen is sick of Saudi because they've ensured Saleh has survived this long. The rest are too far away to matter. Iraq is screwed though for sure.Saraxnow wrote:On the Palestinians yes. You reminded me of Iraq! The iranians again. Tbh, I see the only hope ME has left are the post-revolution Libyans and Egyptians.
'Arab Nationialism' has weakened even more today than it was in the 60s, they do not care of it as much. Not that thats a bad thing.

Why would some of you prefer USA backed Saudi hegemony in the middle east?

The thing i like about the Saudis is they actually do an excellent job in facilitating the Hajj as smooth as possible. Another big plus is they dont refuse their political oppononents to do Hajj, even Ayatollah Khomenei was allowed to enter the country for the Hajj
Re: Time for Saudi kingdom to face the heat too!
I don't think Iran has any interference with this, Saudis are well known to have alleged physical neglection and mistreatment of shiite's in Suadia. Its time this country goes under heat for a while, since its always sitting high on its throne.

My political "affiliations" change with the fluctuations in my income. For the moment, I'm a committed Marxist.
After the 1st million, I'm joining the Tea Party.
