Re: Hello from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
The majority of the foreign students were africans so I usually either hang out with the africans or the french . The omani was the first guy that ever told me I was arab . In France back in those days better be african than arab {arab=algerian } so I told him " no, no , I am not !" Then he told me about somali people who lived in Oman and all kind of stories Anyway I have become friends with him and accepted after a while the fact that if he saw me as an arab , maybe I was one , a special type of arab though { also because the africans didn't really conider me one of theirs eitherCinque Mtume wrote:What did he say about SA, especially the things that seemed to have shocked you?SahanGalbeed wrote:I have met one guy from SA who was blackish {you could see he had black blood in him } and the things he told me about his country weren't really good . I was really shocked but I have also seen the way he interacted with the rest of the saudis who were sent with him to this european country we were , and he didn't really mingle with them. You had 2 different groups . The ones with the long beard , and the ones who hit the bars and this black arab guy who pretty much kept to himself
About SA I think the less one talks about it the better in my opinion .
The Omani on the other hand was as if he was from my tribe , totally different
And what was it that made you realize Omanis and Somalis are very much alike?

Yep, they have people who were originally from Zanzibarabdikarim86 wrote:Did the Omanis bring back Swahili people with them?

Btw, in this link http://www.jepeterson.net/sitebuilderco ... n_Oman.pdf on page 34, the footnote mentions Somali being one of the languages spoken (in the suqs of the capital city Muscat and Matrah) ''by the natives of Somaliland who visit Oman's shores daily in search of dates'' source is year 1911. Remember the merchants and the dates trading?

Re: Hello from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
I actually like how Saudi Arabia gives all the retarded somali arab lovers a nice dose of reality upon arrival.

This is what many on here want Somalia to be like. They want to force your wife & your sisters to wear a tent and be totally excluded from societyDR-YALAXOOW wrote:Awadalprince i can see that your pro saudi arabia, its okay but youb should give little balance view of Saudia arabia and saudis, of course all saudis are not bad people far from it. but one of your questions and answers makes people wonder if your telling th trues.

there is a reason why me,monday,Nabeela and everyone else who grew up in the arab world doesnt buy awdalprice's naive narration.good luck with your endeavors mate.but whatever you selling,we are not buying

Re: Hello from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Sarax I grew in Emaarat too, but it is very different from Saudia trust me. Your post is veyr much applicable to life in the UAE and I agree with it, but Saudi is different. Although if you get lucky and score a job with a big multinational or one of the bigger schools you are set, other than that life isn't peaches and cream. There are a lot of people struggling in Saudia and its a big country, so there is differences between how hospitable people are by region. I found people in Jeddah were much better than those in Riyadh. The special treatment in Saudi is also segmented and depends who you are. Although its easier to get a job as a Saudi, having the passport isnt a gateway to a chilling life as it is in the UAE.Saraxnow wrote:In general, Arabs are hospitable by culture and can be the nicest people ever, but like everything else there have their negatives. I grew up in the Gulf region and can say that the natives are very proud of themselves as the original inhabitants and everyone else who is a non-native is a 'foreigner' even if they were born there. They receive special treatment from their governments and distinction is always made between the population. Also the people that live there whether Arab or Indian/Asian have a special affection for western employees because of the belief that they have better experience or knowledge, even though I believe the educated Indians are more hard-working and knowledgeable than any of these British/Amercan/Canadian immigrants. In short,if you work hard and get a decent job life can be very smooth and easy.
As for the first post, I dunno how you can reach half these conclusions when you haven't lived there for any substantial amount of time. Im not gonna say all Saudis are evil, but your clearly starstruck and tryna glorify the place

The race of Saudis varies, Saudis are a confederation of tons of tribes who lived in the region plus they have many naturalized Saudis who come from all over the Arab world and even outside it including Africa and Asia. There are a lot of black Saudis of African descent, and they dont exactly get treated on the same scale as the "original" Saudis from the bigger tribes.

What first post? And where did I glorify the place?Jaidi wrote:

I was only speaking of my experience and a bit of balancing in here would do.I am aware of the differences between life in Saudi and the other smaller gulf countries, the wealth in Saudi isnt as distributed as it is in the Emirates or Kuwait and you have a much wider economic inequality. With regards to hospitality, lets be honest, it is part of these people's culture as it is in Somalis, sure Jeddah is more so than the southern more tribal regions, agree. The Somali pop. in Saudi is way larger and I have heard of their more difficult living conditions, sort of secluded xaafado that very poor.
And yes I have read about there issues with regards to the sexual deviancies in schools and whatnot , the difficulties many women face, they are there. Ma waxan idhi ma laha mashakilkan

Dont worry, wallahi I am aware of all this, but I just like my old home

Re: Hello from Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
That is true, unless it's by scholarship or something, even high school, if you are ajanbi you have to wait until all saudi kids register, even than you have to bring a saudi friend with you, otherwise no one will even look at you.abdalla11 wrote:I heard non saudis in Saudi Arabia are not allowed to attend an university?
