Thats true to an extent. Jabuti hosts the premier bases of the US and France and they are trained and carry war games with both those countries. In a place like Somalia, where the adversary is using an AK and Soviet Era mortars; the training and the firepower of the Jabuti contingent will more than compensate for it.Murax wrote:Roving,
Not that I am a militiary expert by any means but I do believe just like in any field that experience is the best teacher. If You have soldiers that never experienced live combat before, I can't imagine training with rubber bullets or in controlled situations will prepare You for a place as wild as Somalia. This is why I think its no coincidence that the two most effective in breaking resistance from these groups are the Ethiopians and Ugandans. Both of these folks have hardened, experienced fighting forces that make up in experience what they don't have in equipment, training.

Actually I totally forgot about the US, French bases, so yea they probably are very well trained in comparison to the other AMISOM Battalions. Biggest need of AMISOM is some sort of Bomb Forensics type teams, bomb sniffing dogs and the like. It seems whether its Iraq or Somalia this new strategy these terrorists are using is deadly and hard to combat. I think as a conventional force Shabab is done but this new method is effective for them.

Again, Sierra Leone is only being deployed to Gedo, Kenya will be tasked with the Lower Jubba. Both the Sierra Leonans and the Kenyans are coming under whatever General is tasked with AMISOM. They do not take orders from and are not paid by their countries; they give allegiance to and find payment from the UN through the AU Mandate for AMISOM.
As I have heard, the TFG central command themselves along with the current AMISOM leadership planned where each group would be tasked with. Kenya could not be trust to be physically present in the Gedo Region due to the oil prospecting which the TFG was warned about half a year ago.
Like Murax, I am laughing at how Ethiopia has been neutered. From the uncontested supreme foreign power overlord in southern Somalia to basically almost nothing now.
I think the world realized Ethiopia has never been serious about peace in Somalia while the world is now ready to embrace it. Somalia is no longer a "regional issue" where the world turns blind away to midget Zenewi's puppeteering.

VISITING European Union special representative for the horn of Africa yesterday spelled out terms on which the bloc will continue funding an expanded African Union Mission in Somalia, which will now include Kenya Defence Forces.
Alexander Rondos, who is barely a month in office, told journalists in Nairobi yesterday that the EU wants to see a concrete and fundamental shift towards the stability of Somalia in the course of this year.
The representative who was accompanied by EU's ambassador to Somalia Georges-Marc Andre said EU will neither tolerate a “mixed agenda” approach to the Somalia crisis nor condone those who have, over time, proved themselves stumbling blocks to peace in the country. (Who do you think they are talking about?)
"There must be clarity of purpose and efficient delivery on the part of those engaged in Somalia. Deadlines on road to stability should no longer be extended.
“It is important to say that the EU is a political being; its not simply a provider of cash. It is essential to see that all that money spent on Somalia is properly accounted for to the European taxpayers, this investment must pay off,” he said.

Btw these Guys are gonna have a easy job. I don't think they'll see anywhere close to the combat Ugandans/Burundi saw in Xamar. For the most part I think they're there to just reinforce the backline against Shabab.

this is enough for meSierra Leone last conducted a census in 2008 and estimates there are 4,059,000 Muslims in Sierra Leone . This suggests 71% of the country's total population is Muslim
