Re: obsession with ethiopia
Somalia right now is the lowest depth of civilization (and I use the term loosely)...not cuz I'm self-hating, but cuz it objectively is. Relatively, yes, you can argue Somalia is doing "well" under the circumstances, and even then you'd be hard-pressed to justify how Somalia is doing remotely well by any standards, but it's delusional to think we're anywhere on Ethiopia's level when it comes to development. All the vices you mentioned that Ethiopia has may very well be true, but it's more of an indictment on Somalia that despite all that, the average Ethiopian is still living a better quality of life than the average Somali. So when you're on the bottom floor, even the second floor is a step up.metamorphosis wrote:Lately, i have been reading about ethiopia more and more. Some folks here have become so attached to ethiopia that their obsession is getting unhealthy. Lets ask ourselves what has ethiopia got to offer for somalia? They are completely useless to us and couple misguided kids here are suggesting that we follow ethiopia because they are the best example of what a nation should be. this worries me because to me, ethiopia has failed more than somalia. Sure somalia is In a state of chaos and that most of its people have no access to basic education or basic medication. somalia still managed to create and sustain a market that has been acclaimed as the most boomingb in east africa. We dont get aid from the un, we dont have a central economy that creates jobs, we dont make use of our resources(sugar, banana, and the newly discovered oil), most of our people depend on remittences from abroad, yet their economy is fairly healthy. Ethiopia on the other hand is a nation that takes pride In being the only country In africa that has not been colonized. so shouldnt they be scientifically and technologically be more advanced than the of us? In theory, they should be because they get billions In aid. Its people are highly illiterate due to lack of basic edication, they have no access to medication either. They arev so poor that most of them cant even afford condums, that along with being uneducated on the dangers of many lethal diseases, is the reason that most of them have contracted aids. the average ethiopian is poor and cant afford daily baths or daily meals, maybe the former is why a lot of them stink. Their economy is terrible. This is a fact measurable by their infrastructure which looks horrible. They dont have paved roads that connect the cities to urban areas. Is this the same people that we should aspiring to be? Is this the same people we should be emulating? supose this, switch, somalia with ethiopia. If ethiopia had a civil war and has been chaotic for 20+years, howbwould it look? if a civil war never broke out In somalia, how would it look?

who are you to say that......over the centuries somalis have defeated the ethiopians on numerous occasions!
they`re country can fall apart at any minute....they`ve got armed rebellions in every region and ongoing war with eritrea.

Ethiopia will not fall apart because Allah will not allow it.
Re: obsession with ethiopia
LOL at showing Ethiopian towns where only 1% of the country's population lives. Ethiopia is the most rural country in East Africa, the vast majority lives in poverty-stricken villages.
Clearly you're mistaken.
Nothing objective about the above crap, and yes its clear self-hatred because you refuse to acknowledge the positives of Somalia that numerous economists and analysts have noted, while at the same dismissing the major flaws of Ethiopia to lift the country up at the expense of your own. Somalia has more universities than Ethiopia hence the average person has better access to education, in-fact Ethiopia's literacy rate is still below that of Somalia. In Somalia the average person has better access to technology in the forum of mobiles, internet, landlines and the teledensity is three times higher than that of Ethiopia. There are less hospitals per capita in Ethiopia than in Somalia, there are more doctors in Somalia per capita than in Ethiopia. In Somalia, a shopkeeper, businessmen, or a company has total independence to flourish, while in Ethiopia everything is owned by a 1% elite. If Somalia is the bottom floor why are all these Ethiopian workers doing in the ports of Somalia?yungnfresh wrote: Somalia right now is the lowest depth of civilization (and I use the term loosely)...not cuz I'm self-hating, but cuz it objectively is. Re: obsession with ethiopia
Give Me $50 Billion and i would make Somalia Look 100x Better than Ethiopia, all these new buildings are from foriegn Investors and Loans, Meaning This is Borrowed development and only serve 1% of the population who can afford it. Ethiopia is the Only country in the world where it has a permanent Budget from IMF, that is a shame it means even IMF lost hope on them.
