Ethiopia on the other hand is a nation that takes pride In being the only country In africa that has not been colonized. so shouldnt they be scientifically and technologically be more advanced than the of us? In theory, they should be because they get billions In aid. Its people are highly illiterate due to lack of basic edication, they have no access to medication either. They arev so poor that most of them cant even afford condums,that along with being uneducated on the dangers of many lethal diseases, is the reason that most of them have contracted aids. the average ethiopian is poor and cant afford daily baths or daily meals, maybe the former is why a lot of them stink. Their economy is terrible. This is a fact measurable by their infrastructure which looks horrible. They dont have paved roads that connect the cities to urban areas. Is this the same people that we should aspiring to be? Is this the same people we should be emulating? supose this, switch,somalia with ethiopia. If ethiopia had a civil war and has been chaotic for 20+years, howbwould it look? if a civil war never broke out In somalia, how would it look?

Relatively, yes, you can argue Somalia is doing "well" under the circumstances, and even then you'd be hard-pressed to justify how Somalia is doing remotely well by any standards, but it's delusional to think we're anywhere on Ethiopia's level when it comes to development. All the vices you mentioned that Ethiopia has may very well be true, but it's more of an indictment on Somalia that despite all that, the average Ethiopian is still living a better quality of life than the average Somali. So when you're on the bottom floor, even the second floor is a step up.
