Do you know why marijuana is illegal? It is because of a man named William Randolph Hearst who created an anti-hemp campaign almost a 100 years ago. He was a newspaper mogul and multi billionaire (in today's dollars). He lobbied to make marijuana illegal because hemp (fiber of the marijuana) was used as an alternative to wood-pulp to make paper. The hemp industry would have made him broke. Hearst could't compete with hemp since he was in the wood-pulp paper business. He made the ridiculous statement that marijuana makes people violent. And the US govt bought it, has influenced Canada to keep marijuana laws the same and there is they story.

To this day, we suffer because of Hearst. A Selfish billionaire Republican made it illegal because he couldn't compete with the hemp industry. That's the story.

I thought it was illegal because after WORLD WAR II the blossoming Tobacco industry pumped millions into a propaganda anad lobby campaign against marijuana to convince both the government and populace that marijuana is bad for you, to protect their dirty cancer stick business. I also thought that government's feared the blessed herb's ability to unlock the creativity of the human mind thus less receptive to government warmongering and fear tactics.
