Pathetic hutuking, what is the need to delegitimize his overwhelming support from hawiya in xamar? It's enough to say he will loose due to corrupt mps.
Hutuking is a dumb troll but he has a point. Even though the people appreciate Farmaajo, it doesn't mean anything with the parliament deciding who wins and Farmaajo doesn't have the money to buy votes like the two Sharifs have from their embezzlement of public money.

Farmaajo, Samatar, Baadiye, and all these other guys are wasting their time.

Ninkaan dadka kusoo dhawaynaayo Muqdisho ma ahan badankooda daarood, they are somalis from all walks and clans who believe Farmaajo is a somali first who can do better than others. Someday soon such people with good hearts will dominate politics and decide the future of Somalia by electing a popular with the people person instead of someone who hails from their clan for tribal reasons.

If it was a popular vote he would be the favorite. But since its parliament that votes, I don't think his chances of winning are all that great.

I don't know anything about him but would support him only because most people in Muqdisho would have him as the head of a somali government. Popular sentiment based on genuine hope is something I can support.

His lack of chances of winning is not that important. He is setting a good trend and shows that any somali qualified and popular with people can aspire to lead. That is what has been lacking. Hawiye will set an example for the rest when they assure in a man who is only somali to them into office.

there are many angles to look at this from, however one thing is for sure, Farmaajo is a game changer, involving the masses in the election process is not protocol in a country like Somalia. Even though the public cannot vote him in, he is still seeking their vote of confidence which is truly patriotic and the first time this has happened since 1991(21 years).

He is a game changer and he will go down in History for many things but this will surely be one of them. :som:

down to the politics, the MPs will be the one voting in the President, he has had tremendous support from them in the past, however during election time they are known for accepting huge sums of cash exchange for their vote, this will still happen but take into consideration that there will be a bunch of new MPs, the corruption is monitered much more vigilantly and with fewer MPs tribes want real representation and therefor the MPs will face more pressure than they did before. What does this mean for Farmaajo ?? having the support of the Masses and being seen as the beacon of hope for Somalia across the nation will influence the MPs decision when election comes, that is for sure.

There are several rounds of voting. The first round eliminates majority of candidates and only 2 or 3 usually advance to the second round, and then reality hits in.

The first round is really getting votes from your own clan as most MP's will vote along clan lines. In this round Farmaajo's biggest opponent is Abdiweli to get the Darood vote.

Sakiin will advance to the second round for sure, as he has 61 secure D&M votes.

Hawiye votes will be split between Sheikh Shariif, Badiyow, etc. Majority Shariif.

I think Dir will actually vote for Samatr, or their votes may be spread out. That leaves the .5 votes to fight for.

Second round when there are only 2 or 3 candidates left, that's when it becomes time for payoffs, back room dealings, and alliances forming.

Hawiye, Darood, Dir and Digil y Mirifle all have 61 seats.

Minority clans (reer xamar, jareer, etc) have 31 seats.

This has been the formula since Carta.

It is expected 160 out of the 275 mp's to vote for the two shariif's.
If true, the likes of Farmaajo are out of luck (doomed)
Iibsiga baarlamaanka

The elders are, they are getting paid by people who want to become MPs, and then the MPs are selling their votes to the candidates with money (thats my guess)

At the end of the day, the vote will be based on secret ballot, one man one vote. At that stage, the individual whether bribed or not has total control over their vote.

Okay, lets give Farmaajo credit where credit is due. He is the first PM to do his job and take care of business. He didn't anything magical but instead did what he was SUPPOSED to do unlike his successor and predecessor.

I met him. He is humble and very demure. He is a man of the people and not arrogant nor does he stock his inner circle with his juufo.

In an ideal world, he would be President but this is not an ideal country or election. He won't win this year as much as I would have liked him to do so.

If Abdullahi Axmed Caadow doesn't win (yep, I dislike the man but I can't afford more qaaran !!!!) , I will throw my weight behind Farmaajo
