Somalistar,
Better to have them with in reach than far away out of sight plotting against you. It also makes you look like a gracious
victor and draws away supporters who would no longer view them as heroes. Believe it or not, the warlords had
supporters

Lol@ AW,
The Courts were also good, so maybe it was your relatives? Lol The only way the courts would target you is if you have business and refuse to pay tax, or if you are practising a vice out in the open, breaking the law or getting involved with politics. You are usually safe if you head away from all of this, I should know, my older brothers never left Somalia.

Cause at the moment, this is the only time people feel 'safe' enough to return mass scale.
The Ethiopian time was really bad and the War was really bad, but if he didn't come back afterwards than that screams dodgy to me, sorry.Perfect_Order wrote: Same thing with my grandpa and his family. Though he was an Ogaden colonol, who fought in the 77 war, he never left xamar until 2006.
no most were normal people trying to survive, except for one of my habaryars that was a warlord controlled 2 isbaaros and nearly 100 mooryan.
she lost all her money and her men to the courts.

Gurey,
There were isbaaros during the Makhamiinta time too. Except they issued receipts and had better customer service. But your Rer Abti as a whole prospered greatly. From having 1 large building to over a dozen. Abti Jimcaale has been really good to your rer abti but talk to your Dahabshil adeeryal about the SOMTEL nonsense.
Veiled,
Well as my clan was 99% against the courts, we got especially raw deal. We lost our inland port at Siinkadheer, our Galmudug got invaded twice, our boys were butchered at Hotel saxafi while Sharif Ahmed made speeches outside. I saw the spot they got beheaded when I visited. The COurts only allowed certain clans to profit while mine got nothing.

Gurey,
Abti, If was Dahabshiil, I'd focus on what they do best: financial services. Telecoms in Somaliland is highly dependent on first movers advantage. Telesom owns this.

no abdiwahab Telecoms is highly competitive and depends more on price and quality of service than trust and reputation.
So the opposite of your argument is true.
Dahabshiils xawalad business is unassailable due to trust and reputation issues and longevity,
but anyone can break into telecoms with the right technology and quality +price.

Gurey,
What about the interconnectivity ? SOMTEL has the net service down cold. They own this.
What do you think about the breach @ Dahabshiil ? Was it Anonymous or an inside job ? Are you confident in them securing their systems ?

The government is working on this, progress is slow due to all the operators dragging their feet and the government not being tough enough.AbdiWahab252 wrote:Gurey,

Trust me Abdi you are right somtel is superior and telsom is trying its best to catch up, but both are not upto international standard.
Its my job ive been involved in setup of greenfield telecom , and we did it in 18 months.(nigeria)
Dahabshiil and all somali companies have next to zero security, the holes in their system is so large i do not think anonymous was behind it because i could pay some 15 year olds i know just $100 and they could do more damage.
last year my cousin was discussing this issue with the top management in dahabshiil telling them its dangerous to have such bad security.
They didnt take them seriously he challenged them tellingn them that he could hack their system easily , they gave him a day.
He did it 2 hours, he demonstrated infront of incredulous dahabshiil staff moving funds of random customers around, accessing private information. They thanked him and promised to do something about it.
this was 1 year ago.
Somalis do not take this seriously.

Gurey,
Abti, the hack was horrible. I had to empty my accounts. I always thought that Dahabshiil would have taken security a little more seriously. I also dislike how these hawalas nowdays are asking for your very personal info like Social Security number etc.
Like you said, these Somali firms don't take security seriously. Imagine if ZAAD got hacked, they wouldn't know what to do or how to recover the losses. Anyways who really keeps track of the volume of cash in the system ? IS it backed up with real cash ?
Unless the interconnectivity issue is solved, an upstart firm will always be at a severe disadvantage.
