He's dead now, though that's certainly no surprise as the public knew full well that LAPD wanted him dead. I do think that he needed to be tried under the law for the alleged murders and that the LAPD needed to be thoroughly investigated as well due to his allegations of discrimination, misconduct, and other things. Yet, like many have already postulated, LAPD certainly did not want some things that he may have had to say about their department to come to light. I foresee greater discrimination practised against blacks trying to get into the department due to this incident. Ignorant people and shady organizations usually react with greater hostility towards those they see as potential threats (ie. minorities who may expose their racist and other corrupt practises).
