we will see who is surprised after the London conference.
All the nations of the world, through UN security council resolutions, have reaffirmed the territorial integrity of Rep of Somalia.

S/l has no backers anywhere in the world....Even Ethiopia, which wants to see Somalia broken up has refused to recognise S/L false claims to statehood.
So if you think you can change the worlds mind.......go ahead and make my day. :D

I wanted mature discussion regarding this therefore Original Dervish and Tanker you're opinions are null and void since you're both clearly obsessed with seeing SL go to hell as proven by the way u jump on anything Somaliland related to spew your usual nonsense.
Id rather hear from the genuine unionists who can actually string a coherent argument together and my you two nobodies

Great topic.
LondonLad wrote: It is laughable how much the Somaliland administration heels to UK demands. At the end of the day Somaliland's biggest enemy to its independence claims are not Somalia since President Hassan Sheikh is trying to fulfil his mandate which is to restore unity. Instead it is the British and their like who claim to support Somaliland but yet pressure the Somaliland government into accepting these outcomes. By extension the fault of this lays at the door of the SIlanyo administration and his toothless foreign ministry department. This is East Africa for goodness sake why won't Somaliland play dirty like other African states instead of clinging onto their "Democracy" and peace. End of the day if you want respect you earn it and you do not earn it by being another states' lackey (bitch).
Do you have any ideas on how Somaliland should "play dirty"?

@simpleyserene playing dirty includes many different options.

Firstly, Somaliland is under no illusion to attend these Somalia conferences and as it is as clear as day this new Federal Govt will not accept anything short of Somaliland being reintegrated into a federal system ruled from Mogadishu.

Rather the Somaliland government should cancel these talks indefinately and if the UK do not like it then they should cut bilateral relations and focus on new, more prosperous relations with states such as; China, Indonesia, India or Latin American states. By showing that they are willing to stand their ground SL would gain much more respect for its position from the IC instead of accepting this "Creeping Federalism" which is clearly being imposed by the IC and the UK.

If you look at African governments which garner strong support from the US and UK it is no surprise to find many states that are oppressive with dictatorships such as; Algeria, Ethiopia, Djibouti and now Mali. However, these African states managed to "play dirty" and proved to the West that it is in their interests to support them militarily, economically etc. In turn the West have lept to these states' assistance despite the lack of any democratic credentials or reform. This is Africa and to get what you want in Africa you need to be able to play cut throat politics something this Silanyo administration does not understand.

When looking at the foreign policies of the Silanyo administration it is almost laughable how naive they are in that they expect the IC and the UK to respect SL because of its recent history of democracy and elections. Heck when will they understand these Western states pay lip service to this idea of elections and human rights at the end of the day if you can spark their interest by articulating why they should help and support you. Some African states such as' Algeria have even been found to have conducted "false flag" operations over the years which helped to secure them immense Western military, economic and logistical support. Maybe Somaliland should consider these drastic steps (ensuring no life is harmed obviously).

For example, Somaliland has to realize that whether it has democracy or dictatorship these so called Western, benevolent powers will never bestow upon Somaliland anything as it is not in their own personal interests.

Somaliland would be better placed to try and secure relationships whether economic or political with BRICS nations such as China and Brazil which are aching to get a firm foothold in East Africa and the Horn.

Instead this stupid foreign policy has meant that everything has been focused on US and UK approval. Do not get me wrong from an economic, developmental aspect Somaliland has made great strides under the Silanyo administration, however, when it comes to the foreign policy of Somaliland it has been aimless, disorganised at best.

All the countries you`ve mentioned are beating a path to Mogadishu.
Furthermore, they have recognised the territorial integrity and unity of Somalia explicitly, through UN security council resolutions.

S/l has, during the last 20 years, exhausted every avenue to gain acceptance internationally.
Offers to the US to locate a military base in Berbera, overtures to Israel, fighting the "war on terror", to name but a few.
The only area where S/l has succeeded in attracting foreign engagement is limited NGO aid, and even that has been thrown into question recently.

S/l has nowhere else to go politically, except south to Mogadishu.
