I think it's one of those cases where it differs from person to person like movie reviews. I think I would enjoy a trip back home aslong as it's not over a month.

My mom and sister are there right now and they love it. Maybe their biased too, maybe their hawiyenimo won't let them see any of the negative things. To each his own.

Mogadishu: city of many faces and contradictions, I have been in xamar for the last two weeks and personally I love it and i really enjoy it. things are very bad in xamar but we can say it is having its best tyme in many yrs, the infrastructure is very poor but I thought everybody knew it. Security is not bad, the night before last night i left the city center around 11pm and went to Zone K area, the other night i went to Alikamiin area for shukaansi and left after 9 so i think security is improving.

I want to give your the benefit of doubt because he might gave his clannish prospective and u reported to us with out censoring it. he might have been expecting to much or he is biased, it is true xamar neeeds a miracle to see the kind of change we need.

To make it short: xamar is improving but in a slow move!

There is no doubt the placed is f**ked up.
Twenty years of death and destruction is not gonna be reversed overnight.
Yes, its making a comeback, that is to be applauded, however, there is a long way to go.

The Govt has the power to accelerate reconstruction across Xamar by implementing some simple policies.

1)They should print/import millions of Dollars of Shillings, to be used for public works e.g demolition and clearance of unsafe buildings.
The people employed shouldn't come only from a few sub clans of Hawiye, but include the most marginalized and destitute in Xamar.

This policy has three positive effects. (i)The Shilling will fall against the Dollar, (ii)Rates of reconstruction will increase, (iii)The alleviation of poverty rates among Xamars most immiserated people.

2) It should be the Govt top priority to build a cement plant. Obviously not a billion Dollar factory, but perhaps tens of millions. Also a steel fabrication plant
Clearly the reconstruction effort is gonna consume millions of tonnes of cement/plaster. It doesn't make economic sense to spend what little hard currency the Govt generates on importing cement. Yes it may be uneconomical to begin with, but eventually when a sufficient economy of scale is reached Somalia can look to a future of self sufficiency in cement production.

This Govt would rather import weapons and manipulate the exchange rate to benefit its financiers.
S/l and P/l engage in the same scam.

To be honest most Somali towns stink....there is nobody to deal with sanitation and garbage.
When I walk past a pile of rotting rubbish during the summer, I`m reminded of Somalia.

Some of you have become too comfortable in the west. War some of us wherein Xamar and Al Shabab use to bombard us every night and yet we lived, went to to the market and had some fun.

Perfect

Don't worry just let me know when you are coming to Xamar next time so I can show you around my neighborhood and don't worry only residents are allowed to enter my area and your uncle the former Military leaders house is infront of mine, while the one after him is Muuse Suudi house

I'm still laughing at how he said he couldn't find find a single light person in Xamar, they were so dark, he didn't know whether it was because they were abgal, bantu, war, or the sun.
I thought this was just me :? , the quality of life is so low since they don't ever get the chance to stay home or under a roof therefore become exposed to vast sun every single day.

The Somali are very delusional. Each time a group is in the driving seat, it believes it can wipe the other out. No amount of foreign troop will defeat Alshabaab. The Americans have realized this in Afghanistan after 10 years of waste.

As long as their is enough insecurity and fear, it will drive away potential investors. Every little bomb that goes off, drives away Dayusbaro. Xassan sheikh should be focusing on fixing security and Alshabaab, alas he lost his voice yelling Kismaayo!
