What if you hide your income from her and you get to know each other and plot twist you are actually broke?

You don't really have to ask someone about their income , you can easily figure out whether someone is broke, middle income or rich.
Anyway unless you have extremely expensive taste and lifestyle, most of us can afford leading a ‘normal’ life- so I would be worrying about other things than money.

How many ladies here have been called gold diggers  How many would identify themselves as a gold digger? Do you find the term demeaning? Do you endorse it's negative connotation? And for those who don't consider themselves to be gold diggers, have you given a broke brother a chance

For the gentlemen: when a woman asks about your income, what's your reaction? Are you ever honest? Do you continue whatever you had going on with her? Or you cut your losses and dip?
I have never been called a gold digger and I wouldn't identify myself as one. Yes I find it demeaning and I do endorse the negative connotation (as a feminist I say ha ha serves you right, unless you are the victim and also a feminist, in which case waan ka xumahay but open your eyes next time). DISCLAIMER: I have on occasion joked about marrying a rich old man, normally during exam period

Have I ever given a broke brother a chance? No. I wouldn't take a broke brother seriously and if he keeps at it I try and discourage him until he gets the hint. He needs to get his life in order before he adds someone else to it. Generally what attracts me to a person is their plan, a man with a plan is more alluring than melting chocolate. And if his plan and my plan can complement each other then ulala that would be like the perfect soggy, warm, chocolate cake.

I need to get me some chocolate. :|

But yeah, no to judging a book by its price tag, yes to themes. language, character and DIRECTION

Horta isn't it rude to ask? This is not the first time I've seen people on SNet talk about asking like it's nothing.

I've never been called a goldigger nor would I label myself one.. I haven't and wouldn't give a broke guy a chance.. :| .. I'm attracted to ambitious go getters..

However I wouldn't ask anyone how much they make.. Like others have said there's other ways of finding this out.. But I would want to know exactly how much my husband makes especially if I'm a home at home mother.. :|

Yes personally find it to be extremely rude to ask that, but there are people who see nothing wrong with such question.

It makes sense later on in the relationship when you have the "all cards on the table" conversation. The who will pay for which bills, will we have a joint expense account, how much will we each contribute, how much does each person earn, how much can/should we save, should we have a joint savings account, should we wait to do that until after we have kids etc

I am surprised by how many couples don't have such a conversation before getting married. And they say money is one of the main reasons couples get divorced. I say it is lack of preparation/foolishness.

For the record, I've been called a gold digger by various members on this site, most recent being PO. Never in real life though :stylin:

Okay ladies. What about if he's ambitious but broke  Meaning he lives pay cheque by pay cheque but is pursuing something that he hopes will yield considerable returns in the future?

Not true. You could be thinking about stuff like Your children's college, private school tuition, Hospital bills from baby deliveries, Vacation expenses, saving some money in case of a layoff from their job, etc. etc. etc. She's thinking about gucci bags, louis votton shoes, necklaces, etc. There is stingy and there is running a household.
:comeon: Why would you marry someone who don't understand the purpose of savings?

She can ask me what I do for a living, make a guesstimate then ask me after we have got to know each other really well.
That's what I meant

Then I would find out how lucrative the thing he's pursuing is and perhaps put some money in it myself. But I still wouldn't marry him and would probably think less of him if he asked.

I'm just saying. Doesn't mean you can't keep in touch and revisit the topic or trust each other enough to stick around knowing that that's where you're both headed. But why do you have to get married? That would just add the possibility of children into the picture and who needs that stress when living hand to mouth? If a guy is not strong enough to wait and do things in order how on earth can you trust him to build a life with you?

Besides...when you get on, he leave your ass for a white girl or a second wife in this case  That right there is a typical no plan nigga.
