Warsheekh

We do have the Malaaq but he its more a ceremonial position with no significance. When elders are talked about than we have the Imaam and Ugaas as our supreme leaders.

Sahal

There is a trillion sheikhs but we don't have anything called Sheikh who leads a tribe in our culture. Sheikhs are people with religious background not traditional elders and there is Nabadoon system. As for Hawadle all I know is Ali Madaxweyne and that's it.

Sahal, you guys have Sultans? Is the title used as a substitute for Nabadoon or do you actually have hereditary Sultans :?

I thought the Hawadle system was elected nabadoons for each jifo with the Ugaas as the head, just like the system Osob described for Abgaal.

Osob, Cali Teesto are the most numerous. Back in the days, when people started coming to Muqdisho, if someone asked a Cali Madaxweeyne Xawaadle ciduu ka yahay, they would reply with "oo yaa kale". Arrogant folk

Geo

I know Ali Madaxweyne are the largest sub clan and probably the reason why I know them plus we have them a sister of mine 5 years ago . Sahal is confusing me because I honestly thought Hawadle had nabadoons and one supreme Ugaas. Some tribes actually have 4 or 5 Ugaas which is just crazy and thus probably why they are not united. Technically for US the Imaam is actually the Imaam of all Hiraab as he was the first crowned traditional elder within all Hiraab but now mostly we just say Imaamka Beesha Mudulood. While the first Ugaas was the child of the first Imaams daughter and thus the Imaam and Ugaas families have blood relations.

Nope, there's no question about the Hawadle Ugaas being the supreme elder with nabadoons to aid him. It's always been like that and it still is. It's the best way, too many elders just cause disintegration. I don't know why other don't do it. Sahals folk, the Abdi Yuusuf live all over the South and to be honest, I don't know much about Abdi Yuusuf but I never heard of them having their own Sultans so that's why I am asking him. My sister-in-law is Reer Mataan, I heard her folks mention a Malaaq once. Was going to ask about it but I saw your reply to Warsheekh and it made it sense.

Yeah they are elected in shir but they call him sultan bc that term is more familiar(all jufooyinka biimaal, sheekhaal, rahanween...there is also malaaq wich is distorted malik used by some like duruqba, badicade...) in the south than nabadoon. Ugaas is for all beexaaw.

Osob thank you I get it know bc I know the head of his subclan being shaykh too.
