But the most imperative point was that the Somali nationalism was always based on expansion greater Somali, Somaliweyn. It was easily undermined by the Somali clan nationalists. Because Somali nationalism was not based on a shared historic events for centuries, the clan nationalists overwhelmed the entire country with the many Somali rebel movements all starting with Somali. Somali became synonymous with an ethnic identity and a language but not the nation per say. And they failed to conduct a national agenda post Maxammad afweynes regime.
