:MJ: somaliland is more legitimate than the mogadishu-based government. at least no fufu is walking freely in and around hargaysa.

Isaaq are funny, they want to rule a land they have never ruled, to be apart of a country that has never existed before. Somaliland ha noolato, but it needs to redefine it's borders. I don't think there is anyone in Somalia that wants to rule Hargeisa, let Hargeisa be for the Isaaqs. I think most Somalis are happy that Hargeisa is peaceful, and no one wants to disturb that, they see Hargeisa's peace as what is to come for the rest of the nation Insha'Allah. To me Somalis are like the Italian states or German Principalities or Chinese warring states, eventually they will come together either through war or peace.

I think Somalia will remain united after we all have our negotiations but anyone who thinks it will look like the Somalia of 30 years ago or even it being a federation is deluding themselves. Powers would be so decentralized that I think the central authority will only be responsible for the country's money supply and welcoming foreign dignitaries. Traditional central authority responsibility will be left to the states. The different states will be issuing their own visa conditions at the airports. It will be completely autonomous with little association with the central govt.

But I don't think S/Land will get their seat in the UN assembly. The time for recognition passed. Both Somalia centralists and Somaliland nationalists won't get their way. They will both be disappointed but equally disappointed. There will be no real winner

I don't believe unity will be achieved for a long time, the people are not ready, and I believe you when you say Isaaqs won't tolerate it. But this is now, and what the future holds I do not know. I just see the Somali peoples future inextricably linked, just like the Chinese, German, Italian people, even though for long periods of times they were separate they eventually came together, either through force or peace. It's not just in Somaliland I believe this, but the other regions like Kilinka, Djibouti, and NFD. We will always be linked to each other, even if we are not under "one government".

UN seat is not that valuable, we will be happy with Taiwan like status, we just need to remove any obstructions from xamar.
We have peace we are in the middle of an economic boom right now, the biggest growth since 2004-2009.
If you go to our forums all we talk about are local politics and development issues.

Unity can be achieved if all the sides have good faith,
if what is written by posters on somalinet is a guide, even from the more well spoken posters than the opposition to Somaliland comes from clan
antagonism, envy and even hatred. Not from somaliweyn nationalism or love of the somali people.
once you overcome this hurdle, unity is not only achievable but quickly achieved.

right now clan emotions get in the way of our longterm strategic interests as the somali people.
when you have people like voltage here having wet dreams about somaliland defeated and dragged back into "unity" as a federal state,
and when somaliland sees somalia as a hostile state, the way south korea sees north korea, or isreal used to see its neighbours, nothing will get done.

Imagine a confederation of somali states, with a coordinated foriegn policy, a free internal market and movement of people and goods.
A common defense stance. Such an entity will be too successful that it will give our neighbors Ethiopia especially nightmares.

All the anti Somaliland forumers are showing their true colors like republic and po

We joined Somalia as one entity and we'll leave as one entity. The regions are not even up for discussion.

Unity with Somaliland was sought after those who hated and envied the progress of Somaliland clans, it started somewhere in the 1990s and still exist today, they are not interested in Dhulbahante or Gadabursi, they just use them as justification for their hate, they couldn't careless about the well being of those clans, what irks them is horumarka Somaliland. This is the sad reality.

Siilaanyo is only in the talks to beg for hand outs, whiles Mogadishu wants to lure him into a trap.
