I don't think any country allows another countries intelligence network to conduct covert operations inside their territory especially when that country is a guarantor for peace-talks that seeks to settle the conflicting sides.

ONLF and Eritrea remain friends in the face of Ethiopian aggression.Kenya is largely neutral which is why it has hosted talks before.

if this is true then wallahi kenyans are garbage as fuck. If their handling of westgate was the epitome of embarrassment , then this episode is close to take the cake. I don't support the ONLF but they are freedom fighters and they deserve respect

The thing you have to understand is the northern Kenyan border is largely lawless and that the Ethiopian intelligence and military apparatus basically run it. There are frequent cross-border clashes between different tribes and peoples on the Omo river which empties into Lake Turkana. Cattle herder pastoralists and fishermen who use the river and lake will cross the border and have wars over resources and it's up to the Ethiopian military who comes in and "settles things". Likewise to the east, the area around the big and important city of Moyale on the Kenyan-Ethiopian border is the site of constant clashes between different Oromo groups, some Somali clans and others. When things get heated, the Ethiopian military rolls into town and pacifies things on both sides of the border. The main reason for the heavy military presence however (on both sides of the border) is to target the OLF fighters and leadership who use Kenya as a safe area. Just last month there was a big incident where local Oromo leaders accused the Ethiopian military and agents of being behind all the fitna and fighting going on in and around Moyale. It ended up with the Ethiopian military basically burning down half the city and driving everyone out. Even on the Somali-Kenyan border, for a long time it was actually Ethiopian soldiers controlling the area and manning checkpoints, with no sign of the Kenyan state.

It's mostly the same situation on the rest of Ethiopia's borders, they have a huge military that is very busy. The surrounding countries of Kenya, South Sudan, Somalia, Sudan, and Eritrea all have Ethiopian troops on the ground--whether officially or unofficially.

Snatch and grab tactics with ONLF and OLF in Kenya by the Ethiopians is nothing new, they've been doing this for two decades now. What is somewhat surprising is that they'd do this with high-ranking ONLF representatives that they're supposed to be negotiating with, and in Nairobi. This tells you what little hope there is with ONLF and Ethiopia ever coming to a negotiated peace.

^ Very true

The last attempted abduction which was I think on a Commander named Abdikafi and Cabdullahi Xaliye were on the way to Moyale to be handed to Ethiopia until they were caught and intercepted by authorities somewhere between Wajeer and Moyaale I think.

Sulub and Ali Dhere have already been crossed to Moyale sadly.

If you remember during that last incident, the guys that got caught smuggling them to the Ethiopians were actually Somalis, Ogadenis even if I remember right. They resort to subcontracting their dirty work whenever it's expedient.

They have their Kilil scum housed in the Nairobi embassy who probably provide info.C. Xaliye and co were taken by a corrupt kenyan police official I think who arrested them on behalf of the ethios then attempted to transport them to moyale. He was stripped of his rank and charged last I heard. Yusuf Hajis son the intelligence official had something to do with tracking the culprits down.

It doesn't really matter, these guys will be released some time in the near future. At the end of the day ONLF serves key strategic interests of EPRDF. This abduction is just another theatrical act to convince the populace that ONLF is still relevant and a threat to Ethiopia in my opinion. Why would Ethiopia want eliminate ONLF? who in their right mind kills the goose that lays the golden eggs?
The first assignment given to the ONLF was to divide the somali people in the region and to create a perpetual inter-tribal hostility between them so that a united front was never possible. They executed this brilliantly by firstly picking a tribal name for the movement and telling everyone else to literally fuck off if they ever question the name of the movement and if they don't accept to be part reer Ogadenia. This was an intentional move to create division between somalis in the region.
Ethiopia probably knew that a liberation movement that draws support only from a single clan that does not account more than 35% of the region's population; a movement that have alienated all the clans settling in the strategic border regions with somalia will not pose any significant threat. So why not foster them instead of destroying and then opening the possibility of the creation of a more potent and more unifying movement what will pose more threat than them!
