Goobile is Saar. A traditional dance where people get boorane, where men and women dance side by side and poetic chant is said and then start to get so much boorane that they start to cut their arms due to excessive boorane.

Goobile Saar Gedood!

Are you delusional? Do you even know the lyrics of Goobile? It is called Saar Gedood!

You need to know that there are different types of Saar.

Listen to Saar:

Great song. That song was part of a play by the great composer/playright, Axamadeey Abdi Gaashan. Sheikh Abukar, Kaltuumo, Feynus and Calasow

Kambuli. The Niiko in its best form - well-choreographed- is actually very good. Nowadays, the somali niiko has changed for the bad.

Does one have to be in a state of deliriousness or possessed to dance saar? This is how I see saar..at least that's how I witnessed it being performed by a woman claiming to be an expert..she looked like she was catching holly ghost

Dear Zulaika,

In "real" geeljire- reer baadiye- country, the word "Saar" means "dance"; any kind of dance is called SAAR. The reer magaal "saar" is actually called Boorane/Ayaamo (driving away magic) and is an urban phenomenon. The reer baadiye saar comes in many forms and shapes. It involves women singing the chorus and men dancing. It is usually performed late in the evenings and one main objective is what is termed as "dhallin yareeys" i.e. dating/having fun with someone of the opposite gender. The SAAR is where men and women meet and form bonds. It comes in various shapes, moves, modes and moves; the Goobilo is popular in the western fringes of Gedo, the NFD and southern Ethiopia, The Zeylaci is common in the north; the Walansaqo is popular in the middle of Somalia and the good old Dhaanto (the new one is horrible) is common across somalia. The Gebley shimbir and Batar were practised by women on the interriverine regions. The Beerey, Kabeebey and qaboobey are common on the jubba river and is practised by farmers.
