The problem is that they do not have the ability to help ee kama aha lack of care for the education of their children, but for the past few years Somali parents have been paying for private tutorials to make up for this.Cherine wrote:original dervish wrote:Yes...that's true.....but still I can only go on my own experiences.
Whatever the imbalance....there is a crisis in the education of Somali children (UK).
Far too many are failing to achieve the minimum standards.
What is it in Somali homes that fails to provide an environment conducive to academic success?
Very simple. Somali parents don't help their kids at home, sofaha uun bey ka qayliyaan....' War orod o homework kaaga dhigo' 'Naa barito miyaadan imtixaan leehayn? orod o akhriso television ka kac'. Indians on the other hand sit with their children, go over what they studied in school and make sure they complete their homework. Really that is all it takes to prosper in school...having aabo iyo hooyo that sit with their kids to reinforce what you've studied in school for that day.
The sad part is if people don’t address this issue of “lost boys” this problem will continue into the next generation of Somalis and it will affect our families and kids. The cycle might continue or even get worse.Tuushi wrote:
We can blame the parents a little more for placing higher expectations on the girls and demanding more from them.I will never understand why they think let the boys do whatever they want is doing them any favors. From young age, they are given little or no responsibilities and they are expected to somehow be ambitious and responsible young men? They cant and see lost.
Mainly because education makes them not wanna settle for less and u cant use ''but i am the man and feed u'' card coz she can get her own bariis and caano?X.Playa wrote:So called education is a curse on somali women, the more they think they are educated the worst they become big mouth, loud, argumentive and stubborn like a donkey.
I will choose a woman that reads and writes over any so called s so called educated.

Yeah,i see why that would bother some guys.
Serene. Yeah.Walahi i really wish the recent parents realize where they are doing wrong and fix it.They are setting up their precious sons for failure and they were never consulted in the matter.

I think the fertility rate is another reason; there are simply many kids in somali households
Xplaya, education is a blessing to everyone and every society.Women who are argumentative and stubborn are what somali families need; not the softie type whose views on life is based on illusions.
Is that based on your experience?"the more they think they are educated the worst they become big mouth, loud, argumentive and stubborn like a donkey."
Why is that Tuushi? If we are to do something about the problems of somali families in the diaspora, we cannot neglect family planning.Tuushi wrote:Xplaya. Now u r being hysterical.
Lamagoodle. Family planning is something very personal and i cant really even bring it up in a discussion with Somalis.
The discussions always gets deeper and religion is always used.Which is ironic because the kids arent even 2 years apart in some cases.Lamgoodle wrote:Why is that Tuushi?
