Darood uses direct patrilineal lineage while raxanweyne is a true federation of small clans. Raxan in somali means group and weyne means big, thus big-group or raxanweyne.
Raxanweyne is not based on "abtirsi", but on political alliance. This system exists in hawiye also where small clans can just declare to be hawiye and are accepted. It also exists in dir where clans like isaaq claim dir to further politcal goals. All of these clans also used the irir political construct.

Darood is based on abtirsi, nothing to do with politics or gaining more power. Direct lineage is what distinguishes darood from other qabils. Darood will never claim irir, dir or any other qashin, just Darood.
