I was talking to a young xaliimo earlier who I haven't seen in a while since we are neighbors, she works two jobs and attends school. I asked her why? after beating around the bush she tells me she is in love with a mutual friend and is working hard to provide a future for em. I don't think I've ever been more sad seeing a young, innocent haliimo diving straight off a cliff.

A) the mutual friend is a partyhead, doesn't really work.

B) has alcohol issues

C) she pays for his car's note with the 2nd job

D) he sleeps with anything with a pulse

I tried my best to advice her but at the end of the day, she will do exactly the opposite and end up a statistic.

From my own observation, I have noticed that Puntlandis lead when it comes to divorce rate. Most Puntites marry for a year and its followed by the Hawiyes, then some Rahanweins. Since our friend Julkimi is Puntite, I guess she sees the trend in her community. It makes sense.

I think one contributing factor that i've personally witnessed in a married couple might be the constant nagging, bickering coming from the wife. This particular case is a pending divorce, she is practically begging for it. The woman needs to respect her husband it's as simple as that

I think it has to do with Somali society failing the couple as well. They use to mediate when issues became bad, but now they only hop on when the couple can't stand each other. It's a shame.

They're there to celebrate and spend thousands and hope for the best only; waliidka they are guilty as well because of the hands-off approach.

I've seen a lot of issues and marriages break-up with families not being able to/not wanting to guide the young couples.

Farhan, you are blaming divorces on the women? Women 'nag' when a husband is not fulfilling his obligations to her, it is not something that comes out of nowhere. It is rising irritation from his unchanged behaviour. And maybe he is not changing because she has become so negative? It's cyclical and cannot be blamed on one of the two.
