Believe it or not. But Somalia was actually more self-sufficient compared to many African countries back then. Matter of fact Somalia was only handful of African countries that provided free healthcare and education to its people. Yes Somalia was receiving quite alot of AID just like the rest of Africa, but majority of those AID was invested in the military hence Somalia had one of the most powerful armies in Africa.

thats why I used the same parts you marked. somalis were very very poor compare to today's somalis.

And Americans in 70's were very poor compared to the Americans today. Obviously people are getting wealthier as the time goes on. If the civil war hadn't happened Somalis would be significantly more wealthier than we are today.

A very backwards idea

Its better than the current idea. People need to be put in their places. Because everyone thinks the clan is the best, people have no social status.
A poor nomad could be more respected and have a higher status than a business man in the city. This is what is killing somali people 'they have too much pride'. For example a nomad would refuse to work in a barber shop. He would be like 'anigoo ina hebel hebel ah ayay dooniyaan inan timo jaro'.

Right now Somalis are just hoping that oil is going to be discovered in their country, and they would all become rich. Sorry but I've been hearing there is oil in Somaliland since I was born and nothing has been discovered, same goes for somalia. Too many lazy somalis sitting around chewing khat and waiting for their monthly Dahabshiil payment. This is not life. People need to get off their asses and work hard, leave the lazy people behind, even if thats your clan. People need to realize capitalism and social class is the way forward. Leave the other somali people who are not beneficial to you behind. Because that is the thing with somalis they would always drag you down. If your broke, they would call a pasent and not help you out. But when you got money they want to be your best friend, and if you tell them no then you would get labelled as a midgaan.
