How disgusting! This is what SIYAAD BAARE Did. Emphasis on Somali language and no other language which will help Somalis in the global hemisphere. This is an attempt to handicap Somalis, in an attempt to seek misguided notion of Somali patriotism!

Has anyone bashing Somali in Djibouti ever even been there?
They speak more Somali than French/Afar/Arabic.

A Djibouti version of Académie française, when will they free themselves of the yoke of French Colonialism?

Have you been back to kili5 recently?Talo alle udaa wrote:I was born in kilil5 and do not even know the xabashi alphabet. Djibouti ppl have accepted french domination.

But don't forget in Somalia English, Italian, and Arabic were the languages kids learned in. My mom was totally taught in Arabic in secondary school. In Mogadishu, people were taught in Italian for university.

Regardless of what it's modeled after, I'd say the Somali Language Academy is a pretty good start.Perfect_Order wrote:A Djibouti version of Académie française, when will they free themselves of the yoke of French Colonialism?

Re: East African Somali-Speaking Regional Academy
It's too late. You can't "preserve" a language that is constantly changing. where do we draw the line in accepting new words? Somali is a language that is very willing to borrow words from different languages, no one will stop it.Based wrote:Regardless of what it's modeled after, I'd say the Somali Language Academy is a pretty good start.Perfect_Order wrote:A Djibouti version of Académie française, when will they free themselves of the yoke of French Colonialism?

Re: East African Somali-Speaking Regional Academy
You can say that about every language. I guess the point of the academy would be to standardize the existing vocabulary, spelling, usage etc. while regulating new loanwords or Somalizing technical terms through loan translation like Hebrew or other languages.

I agree Based. PO, did you know I didn't know what 'karontada' meant? I thought it was 'laydh'.
We need standardized Somali from north to south, no more borrowing words.
