I've been back home and I don't see people breaking their backs for them so no. The indoyars, timojilac, other Africans and dhegocase win in that respect. I have noticed no such buffoonery.
I already saw that article. Did it occur in Somalia - no So, it's inadmissible because it's not related to your first point. It is also anecdotal. If this Somali man were the norm he'd break that man's already hook nose and save the plastic surgeon some extra work.
I was using that to illustrate that the 'Proud Somali' is dying out or already extinct. 30 yrs of civil war, humiliation in foreign lands and qaxootinimo can do that to you.

I know there are grievous humans rights violations committed against Somalis. I also know foreign crocks have taken advantage of their fall from grace. Unlike, you I still don't think they have no pride or they think others are better than them. Far from it. I don't think they acquiesce easily like other ajnabis and I stand by my claim.

I have seen some when I was there. The locals either view them with suspicion or think nothing of them. They certainly don't get premium service. That's not a Somali thing. Do you understand?
Expats are more reserved to distinguish white folks, generally. I've also seen others fully assigned to it without trouble, I think it depends whether you're expat nationality is from a western nation. For example, black person from America in Dubai..an expat..black person from Africa in Dubai..immigrant. I've witnessed this firsthand myself.
But what about the use of "westerners". Can non-whites who either were born or immigrated to western countries claim this title when they are in non-western counties?
I met a Moroccan girl from Vancouver while I was traveling in Asia, a nice girl..she was showing us around, beyond just the expat, she fully identifies herself as westerner because she was born and raised in Canada. She kept pointing out whenever something or a location was "western" standard. When other expats asked where both of us are from, she would say she's a Canuck but I was more comfortable hyphenating my nationally as Somali-Canadian.

This entire thread has been snetters bemoaning the international perception of whites, and ignoring the actual topic. Expat term is not exclusive to whites. Whoever wrote this article was hurting.
