Watch this video, it explains the origins of these schools of kalaam/theology quiet well.Otherbrother wrote:Did you just call Imam Ahmad Bin Hanbal a Kafir?ZubeirAwal wrote:I am in the process of reading the Aqeedah of Imam Tahawi, as for which creed I choose, they are three rays emitting from the same light, all three are upon haqq, all three affirm what is in the Qur'an, that Allah cannot be imagined and so to liken him to the human form is a form of idolatory even if you say " Allah is a form but unlike other forms" as Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal states, that will still render the said individual a kafir, because the essence of shirk is to ascribe a image unto God, and Allah has shown who he has favoured by making the stars of this tradition defend that which the three imams of the aqeedah came with, the same cannot be said for the modern day Salafi, who takes aqeedah not from the Salaf but from Ibn Taymiyya, who famously said in a khutba in Damascus " Allahu yanzil ka nuzuli hada" " Allah descends just the way I descend from this minbar" , Wallahi whoever believes and defend this, may Allah guide you.
@ Abdulkarim
I mean by wider and lesser, Ahl Us Sunnah is one. And only one, you cannot say that the sahaba, the Nabi SAW and the true Aqeedah is all Athari, Ashari, Matrudi. It doesn't make sense. So only one is in the lesser sense. In the wider sense, all three are known as ahl us sunnah, since they are not the Aqeedah of the Shia. As muslims are known as only Shia and Sunni in the wider sense.
With all possible respect, you are wrong. Athari, Maaturiidi and Ashcari are all Ahl Sunnah in the strictest sense!!!
The differences are that Athari do not delve into "Speculative" theology and they do not feel the need to justify
text be it quraan or hadiith using reason and logic as a tool.
Whereas Ashcari and Maaturiidi do not shy away from reason and logic in justifying text.
When Imam Hanbal was imprisoned by the Caliph when he did not submit to Muctazila theology
all he did was oppose it, he did not come up with a systematised theology/kalaam to counter the Muztazila
The Ahl Sunnah wal jamaaca represented by Imaam Hanbal did not have a systematised way of countering the Muctazila and their "Greek" reasoning and logic.
Imam Tahaawi came up with a systemised theology/kalaam in order to make it clear in the minds of the confused muslim masses
what was required to be believed in and what was not. This gave the Ahl Sunnah a coherent peace of text making clear all
the tenets of belief. Imam Tahawi is considered to be the founder of Athari aqeedah, which tends to keep silent on matters
which do not have direct answers from the quraan and sunnah
Imaam Ashcari and Maaturidii also AFFIRMED the aqeedah of Imaam Hanbal/Ahl Sunnah wal jamaaca
however they did not shy away from employing reason, dialectics and logic (basically the tools of the Muctazila)
in justifying the aqeedah of Ahl sunnah wal jamaaca.
They also delved into what might be termed "speculative" theology (this is especially the case with Imaaam Maaturiidi)
when explaining certain things not given clear explanations in the Quraan (like for example the nature of God/his attributes).
Whereas the Atharis kept quiet on these issues preferring silence to reason/logic (which is entirely a respectable thing to do).
The members of these schools constantly argued with each other back and forth over the centuries however they
all recognised each other as legitimate schools of kalaam of Ahl sunnah wal jamaaca
Over all, whether Athari/Salafi or Ashari, these are theological difference, who's place is with the academics. It should only Concern the lay people like us, in matters between Imaan and Kufr.
Very True!!!
As far as I heard, no scholar called the Asharia Kuffar, nor they call the Athari/Salafi's Kuffar. Due to the Athari's taking things as said, and not getting into explanations. e.g. Allah SWT says he has a yad (hand). But we don't say its a hand like this, nor like anything ever seen. Its perfect, and we don't go any futher, nor imagine it, nor describe it.
While the ASharia of the past used the Lugha (language) and the Nahwu( grammar) to say, things like Yad is Power, as it also can mean that etc.
Athari keep silent on such things and Ashcaris totally deny anything that may give humans the idea that
God has form within his created universe , Ashcari therefore believe that it is important to explain anything which may be
give humans an anthropomorphic image of the divine, this is absolutely important.
Neither can be called a Kafir, so its not that big of an issue.
True, but we cannot deny certain types (saudi influenced of course) believe
Ashcari and Maaturidii are misguided, even though the vast majority of ulema
belong/belonged to these two schools. Some of them even claim Imaam Ghazaali
was misguided/wrong in their sermons![]()
By the Zubeir I watched your video ...it is good
Laakin for next time you may want to limit the music, it is quite distracting.

Okay, I will either keep it at a very low minimum or perhaps put none on at all.
