These elements of Somali culture don't contravene our deen, but Wahhabis have convinced Somalis otherwise, that my point. What's wrong with loose non see-through dirac, a gogarad under and a large garbasaar that covers the hair completely? Also, what wrong with celebrating special occasions with men and women together as long as decency is observed, and people aren't winding and grinding? Also, what's wrong Somali music, or any music for that matter if it's not lewd like todays pop and hip hop? Most sunni scholars hold that there's nothing wrong with any of this, including heavyweight classical scholars like ibn hazm and al-ghazali.InaSamaale wrote:

Re: 10 Truths About Somalia And Somalis!
Good job you've discussed the truth and I like realist people not people who have chip on their shoulders. In order for Somalis to be free and be something they have to learn to be themselves and learn to say fcuk off to the chip on their shoulders whether qabil or 'go fadhi ku dirir with reer hebel' or please some Arab fa9 called "sheikh".
That's what I always talk about and you have to also know Arabs fcked Somalis hard more than anyone else. That's why I try to open their eyes to the region and understand they have far more things in common than the people they love to hate the most than Arabs and all the other shyt they idolize.
Arabs also destroyed Somali culture thru religion teaching often masking their dirty culture under "Sunnah"....Abdi be wearing go' (garment) and they be like "Warya drop it that is not Sunna go get a pant sewed in Arabia or qamiis but it must be above your ankle".
The girls are the same so brain washed they happy to wear ninja clothe all day all night and enter restaurants from where cats also enter rather than walk into a restaurant like a normal human being----one door one bini Adam....one services.
That's why I appreciate Siad Barre. He did great job pushing back Arab cultural invasion but made the mistake of adding Somali Republic to Arab League. That further fked Somali heads. How many times did I saw kids saying they were Arabs because Somali UN flag was flying in the Arab League.
I call for the Somali Puritan ideology. The restoration of the original African Somali. The nomadic identity that was free of qabil hatred, Arab idolization just to name few ills within this family. The problem with Somalis is they never sit down and ask themselves what went wrong, how can we ensure we don't repeat the same mistakes. Somalis never learn from mistakes. They so shallow they think everything will somehow get better with time while still swimming in the same mess. They have to re-evaulate themselves and look Somalinimo not from clan-lense but from a telescope in space.

Re: 10 Truths About Somalia And Somalis!
Without getting into a fiqh discussion, I have no real authority on discussing, my point is there is the opinion that music is haram from many scholars. Its not right of you to dismiss it as "wahabi", simply because you hold a different opinion. Firstly, I hate labels and don't ascribe to any but the ironic thing is people who throw around terms such as wahabi/salafi accuse them of being cult-like in their interpretation of the deen yet you're doing the exact same thing here.Jugjugwacwac wrote:These elements of Somali culture don't contravene our deen, but Wahhabis have convinced Somalis otherwise, that my point. By the same token of your questioning though, what is wrong with a segregated wedding, where the girl wears a guntiino/dirac, lets her hair down, buraanbur is danced to along with poetry, Somali songs are played (without the music)? That is how my friends wedding was. Beautiful occasion that celebrated her Somali & Islamic identity.
With regards to your questions on mixed wedding celebrations, I have never heard of a Somali mixed wedding where decency is observed. But like I said, culture isn't stagnant. Maybe in future years it will be a norm.
Many times, this qualm with Arab culture invasion is made by people who have an inherent problem with certain tenents of Islam, like with post above mine.

Re: 10 Truths About Somalia And Somalis!
There is nothing wrong with viewing music as haram and mixed weddings as haram if that's ones interpretation of the religious texts on the matter. Difference of opinion in religion is inevitable, and isn't a problem as long as people observe tolerance and don't chastise or shame others with a divergent viewpoint on non-fundamental issues of the deen, especially when they have many illustrious sunni scholars to back up their position. The problem with Wahhabis isn't necessarily their views, it's their arrogant imposition of their views on others, and the shaming and belittling when people don't toe the line. And if in power the forced observance of their warped version of the deen on all.InaSamaale wrote:

For example, under a Salafi state the Somali national theatre wouldn't be rebuilt, and Somali plays, folk dances and performances would be banned, the sexes would be heavily segregated, men would be forced to grow beards and shorten their trousers etc, even though none of these things are agreed upon within conservative Sunni Islam. But under a more enlightened Sunni theocracy such things wouldn't be policed as long as good and moral conduct is observed in public, and the energy of the Shariah based government would be focused on banning alcohol, gambling, prostitution etc...like actual vices which all Muslims agree on and not imaginary or trivial ones.

This post has a more benevolent tone to it. I agree there are larger issues worth prioritizing than female attire & policing of gender interaction but they aren't 'imaginary' either. Khair, I think we're coming from the same place.Jugjugwacwac wrote:

Re: 10 Truths About Somalia And Somalis!
I'm not a Somali secularist advocating for a liberal way of life here, I'm a socially conservative Muslim. I'm just saying there's no reason to go to extremes, and if one does then no need to impose it on others. But I think we get each other now like u said. And I can't really blame u for getting a bit agitated, because I do concede that the Wahhabi card and the Arab cultural imperialism card Is usually used by Somali secularists and Islam haters. But we have to agree with the truth even if it comes from opposite end of the ideological spectrum.InaSamaale wrote:

Who told them there's no place for them in Somalia/Somali culture, and whose forcing them down these two routes? Elucidate a bit please.Buraanbur wrote:
I can see where they're coming from because they have been told that there's no place for them in Somalia/Somali culture. Somali women are forced to take one of two routes: 1) become a Salafi, wrap themselves in a bedsheet, change their name to Umm XYZ and busy themselves with Arab culture/politics/causes or 2) become a liberal who only eats organic food, drinks fairtrade coffee and fights for every POC cause under the sun. Both of these women have one thing in common: they want to change the social, cultural, and religious nature of Somalis. The only females who give a shit about Somalis are people like me, the qabiilists. We are a small but growing number who are committed to converting our sisters back to the truth. Viva la revolución!

Re: 10 Truths About Somalia And Somalis!
This character is definitely attacking Arabs and labels women wearing niqaab, an attire worn and started by the wives of the Prophet SAW, as "bedsheets". They disguise these attacks against Islam snd label them arab attire to soften the blow. These are the types of folks were dealing with here who lie through their teeth. He promotes iqtilaad or free mixing which is very big fitnah that may arise and still claims to be "conservative" muslim?
Be aware folks for surely these are thinly veiled attacks on our religion.

Re: 10 Truths About Somalia And Somalis!
Show me unequivocal proof from the Quran or authentic Sunnah that free mixing is haram. The only prohibition in Islam is that a man be alone with a women who is his non-mahram. Other than that there is nothing in the entire Quran and Sunnah that prohibits normal dealings between unrelated men and women. As for the hijaab, are you saying the only valid form is the jilbaabs worn by Somali hooyos and the burkas of Afghanistan? Saaxiib, the only conditions for hijab in Islam is that the clothing is loose fitting and does not show the contours of the body, is a solid colour and not see through, and that it covers the entire body except hands and face. That's all, nothing more nothing less. These jilbaabs and niqaabs aren't waajib nor the only valid forms of hijab. Many Somali women go out in dirac, gogarad and large garbasaar, and you can't see an inch of their body and everything is loose. They're perfectly in a state of hijab by dressing like that. If u disagree, once again bring unambiguous proof from the Quran or authentic sunnah.grandpakhalif wrote:This character is definitely attacking Arabs and labels women wearing niqaab, an attire worn and started by the wives of the Prophet SAW, as "bedsheets". And by the way, how the hell is free mixing fitnah? Do u get boners by walking through the supermarket? Or get a compulsive urge to mount the nearest female to u in your biology class? Free mixing is unavoidable sxb, and 95% of men and women can control their desires just fine. If i'm already free mixing everyday at work and school and at malls, ill be damned if I cant have my female loved ones, colleagues and neighbours at important events in my life or be present for theirs.

Exactly. But then contrast that to the West, where women are encouraged to dress like harlots and men are shamed as perverts if they so much as even look for longer than 2 seconds (unless he's rich or attractive lol). These women relish in their right to act like skanks but demand not to be treated as ones so much so that they hold 'Slut Walks' all across North America and Europe, and tell men to stop the 'victim-blaming' and to 'check their privilege'. Average men in the West have effectively become expendable castrated drones used to prop up a feminist welfare state, where their tax dollars are used to subsidize single-mothers and their thug-spawn, contraception, abortion and overall female hedonism. On top of this, the threat of being ruined in divorce court and sent to the cleaners by their wives whenever she feels like it and for whatever reason looms over their head. No wonder Western men are commitment-phobes these days. Essentially women in the West want all of the privileges and none of the responsibilities or consequences, while men have to deal with all of the responsibilities and consequences for very little privileges, not even a home cooked meal lol. It's a raw deal. Mike tyson once famously quipped 'I've been robbed of all my money, can I at least get a Blow***?' and men in the West should be saying 'We've been totally emasculated and you women run us, can we at least get some food?"incognito1 wrote: i cant count how many times i have said this to a salafi/ wahaabi follower. if a man cant control his urges in a normal society, is it his fault or all womens fault, well the saudi say its the womens fault. through segragation homosexuallity is soaring in the sick kingdom.
In such a scenario, give me Saudi Arabia anyday lol. But Honestly neither degenerate Western liberalism nor paranoid Saudi-styled Wahabism are good models to use to organize Somali society.

Re: 10 Truths About Somalia And Somalis!
Federalisation is not something inspired or created by Ethiopia. its something to do with Somaliland. as we all know Ethiopia had no influence in somaliland creation it was clan project. After 8 years our rival clans the harti took the same idea. then other somalis copied after putland. that's the truth. the xabashis role in somali politics is over exaggerated. Every one used the xabashis to reach their own clan goals and the xabashis have their own agenda too. the entire horn communities are victims of deception. the xabashis are in worse situation than we somalis are. the only fools are the wanlaweyns they are the ones who brought foreign troops into their land.
