XamarLady,

Amharic was written language as far back as the 12th century.

Emperor Yekuno Amlak made it the language for the royal family and the Church after he unseated the almost 400 year old Zagwe dynasty of the Agew people.

He restored the Solomonic dynasty. Before him the language of the court and church was the Geez. He is regarded as the father of Amhara nobility. He was amongst a group of soldiers and people who fled from Axum to present day Wollo. It was previously called Beta Amhara, Amhara meaning free.

I have the document if you need and can read ancient Amharic.

Hawdian there were many clans mentioned in Futuh al Habasha. Most from the north. Habar Magadle, Bartire, Marehan, Hubeer, Yabarre, Harti, Hawiye, Geri, Xarla and many others. All of these clans were part and parcel of the war. Ahmed Gurey would have gotten nowhere if they did not have his support. This is why he married his sisters to the garads and Ugaases of those clans, to maintain their loyalty. They went all the way to Tis Abay and past Gondar and all they way south to Gamo Gofa.

Read it, it is the greatest epic of Somali history.

Most Oromos are barely related to Somalis. Especially the odd Amhara or Omotic looking ones in the highlands.
