Democracy is one of ways to govern a country but it's neither perfect nor suitable for all countries. It works in the western countries because there are multiple safeguards and centuries of laws & tradition to ensure that the government will function smoothly whether a good or bad president takes the office. It also helps that western countries government has taken on a 'caretaker' role now as they're so rich that their individual policies no longer have adverse effect on its own citizens, they're mainly designed to keep them happy. Most of work is regulated to departments within the governments which are often left to their own devices.

Democracy in a poor, third world country with so many potential? No way. We all know that the current government is heavily influenced by external influences, but why make it worse by insisting on democracy? The possibility of corruption is simply too high on this one because instead of dictatorship, it gives voters an illusion that their votes are actually worth something, decreasing the chances of uprising by an order of magnitude, if not more.

Mark my words, whoever is elected in next election will be very pro-western just as HSM was, probably even more so. You guys and gals will see very little difference between that guy and HSM.
