Djibouti??
you have to go through the french foriegn legion and their air-mobile battalions the finest of their kind outside of Russia.
and 800 man battalion is worth at least 10 times that number.
just to go through the french would require a division or 2. 30,000 men.

The question is Somalia vs Djbouty and not Somalia vs France you idiot. If Djoubty has french troops than we have ugandan and burundi troops.gurey25 wrote: Thu May 25, 2017 5:36 am Djibouti??

Somalia doesnt have ugandan and burundian troops,
they have somalia..
The same with french troops, Djibouti does not have french troops,
french troops have in their possesion Djibouti..
so my previous post is accurate..
If you ignore the air assets of NATO in Djibouti, and they hypothetically allow 20,000 somali, burundian and ugandian troops to invade. Non French NATO forces are a few hundred so we will ignore them.
There are 1600 french forces and they can stand head to head with this hypothetical force of 20,000 ugandian, Burundian and Somali troops.
If you want close to zero casualties for the french, something like 1-2% then you need to double their number , at least another 2 battalions and more artillery.
If you want ZERO casualties on the french side, then a few sorties of mirage 2000's with cluster bombs will sort things out.
The South Africans first experimented with cluster bombs in the same open desert environment against masses of namibian guerillas out in the open.
They killed 900 men in 3 minutes.

Size of economy, and even size of armed forces does not determine power.Abdelrahim wrote: Mon May 22, 2017 1:10 pm You guys may have 10 times their population, but Djibouti has a $2.09 billion economy!
The per capita of Djibouti is 2x that of Somalia so they have more money to spend on weaponry. lets keep ethnic emotions out of this discussion, when it comes to war no Djiboutan citizen would fight for Somalia.
Djibouti has 2 Hind mil-mi 24 helicopters which is can use to fight somali army from the air and it also has transport aircrafts to fly over somali territory instead of fighting through land.
Djibouti has a small and well equiped force that is more disciplined then any other somali force, so they will win in most situations.
As their size is too small, any enemy that can throw manpower at them will defeat them.
No look at the example of Saudia.
On paper they are a super power, rivaling Isreal and Turkey and Egypt in terms of power.
In realty they lack training , dicipline and are worthless.
To be totally honest , hypothetically if Jordan was allowed to conquer and take over Saudia and create a new Hashimte kingdom.
They will overrun and own all Saudi forces in a matter of weeks.
Even though what weapons the saudis have are a generation ahead of jordan, and they have 4 times as many personel in the armed forces.
The Same with the UAE, the UAE does not fear its army so they allowed them to train to a decent standard, and they armed with the most modern weapons available. UAE's 40,000 army will easily defeat Saudia's 250,000.
The Same with Oman's 20,000 army versus Saudi'as 250,000, they are seperated by the rubc al khali impassable desert so
lets say we magically transport the entire saudi armed forces with all their bases and logistical support and drop them on omans border.
my money is on the small 20,000 man omani army winning.

You must be joking.... yes, Economy and numbers do determine the outcome of a war
Saudi army is just as well trained as any army in the middle east. A lot of the countries you mentioned like Egypt and Jordan depend on Saudi arabia economically. They are a well equiped, trained and a great force which you cannot mess with. They can literally destroy Oman, UAE . Jordan etc...

djibouti will win, not only because they have massive foreign military presence already, but their allies would all come to protect them within days if not hours. I do think Somalia would have some victories and maybe even capture djibouti for a few hours.

If you have 2 modern economies then the larger economy has the greater advantage because it can supply its own weapons and ammunition and supply it. If you have 2 third world countries with modern arms having a larger economy means nothing because you both have to import weapons and supplies.Abdelrahim wrote: You must be joking.... yes, Economy and numbers do determine the outcome of a war

The army that is better trained and disciplined will win hands down.
Modern war requires allot of technical expertise , with that you cannot even use your numbers.
and how do you know the saudis are well trained? is it an article of faith?
do you have any knowledge of millitary affairs?
Ive read extensivly on this subject and concluded that saudia is basically shit, but a few years back i met someone that used to train them. A US officer that has retired and runs a business in dubai,
after a conversation about his experiences i was shocked, the level of competence of the Saudi armed forces is allot worse than i could ever have imagined..
its really shocking...
