Some of my closes friends are non-Somali. They are not my friends BECAUSE I am Somali but because we have alot in common. That is why I am not suspicious of them. My first year in Jilib it was strictly feenuus (sp?) . There was no electricity.

My second year some houses got one lightbulb for about two hours each evening on a somewhat irregular basis. There was a gasoline generator in the district comissioner"s office/post office. I am fairly confident the line then did not make it all the way to the other end of town to the musajid.

I think simple distance explains why I never heard the athan.

Actually there was a Cathedral/Italian School in Kismayo, taught by nuns and a priest called Padre Pietro .....Actually the Lower Jubba region was rife with remnants of the Italian colony. I was told that the CEO of the Banana Exporting Co. was Italian b4 it was nationalized, I have seen a father and son running a restaurant that was adjacent to the police station. Another school was run by American Peace Corps in Jamame, it was called the Menonite Mission, Yoontooy was another location the Italians never left and they dubbed it "Paradiso Perdutto" and they had a small church, rumors had it that they converted the farm workers who were mainly Somali Bantu, the Government intefered and deported them, I heard due to those rumors

I am fairly certain the Menonite and Peace Corps operations in Jamame were separate. I did visit an American group there, outside the town, but was not aware they were Menonite.

Eileen Bartold was stationed inside Jamame, and I believe she was the only Volunteer ever posted there. I could be mistaken because there was one group after me. But....

Eileen is Jewish. Also, I don't think the American Government would have let her work for a religious organization in any case.

Is my view that the average intelligence of somalinet members has suffer significantly and automatically in consequence of the attack on all authority (one nation/people), peace, or harmony for that matter.
