He is probably the most learned and most influential somali sheekh alive today.

His quran tafsir is the most widely listened to in somalia.

He clearly said The Tigres and those fighting alongside them are same. Kufars.

To fight people who are implementing the sharia is clear kufr.

Kufrul-Istibdaal is defined as:

Disbelief because of trying to substitute Allah's Laws. This could take the form of:
(a) Rejection of Allah's law(Shariah) without denying it
(b) Denial of Allah's law and therefore rejecting it, or
(c) Substituting Allah's laws with man-made laws.

Allah (swt) says: Or have they partners with Allah who have instituted for them a religion which Allah has not allowed. [Surah Shuraa(42), Ayah 8]

Allah(swt) says: Say not concerning that which your tongues put forth falsely (that) is lawful and this is forbidden so as to invent a lie against Allah. Verily, those who invent a lie against Allah will never prosper. [Surah Nahl (16), Ayah 116]

Do you think Sheekh cumar Faruuq is inventing a lie against Allah?

The scholars are the inheritors of the prophet(salallahu caleyhi wa salaam).
This is as close as it gets. The top most culamaa saw a modern event as kufr.

The act may be un-Islamic, but the actors are not kufr. Failing to pray is kufr, but missing prayers does not make you one. Just because you don't follow certain rules, does not make you kufr.

Again, Mohammed was as clear as a azure sky in brightest summer on this issue. The only way for a Muslim to become kufr, is to verbally renounce Islam.
