I do dispute that. Caydiid was not in control of every man with a gun in Somalia. There were no deliberate actions by the USC Armed Forces of massacring anyone. If there were massacres, they were commited not by USC forces but others who had scores to settle.

Many Darood were spared by the USC regulars. My family spared the lives of countless Darood relatives and my awoowe almost died defending his Darood neighbor from a bunch of ciyaal suq seeking Darood blood after Siyad Barre started shelling Wardhigley with the BM-21 and after the Darood started pulling Hawiyes out of their houses and shooting them before the USC marched into Xamar.

The bloodletting started early on before even the USC came into the city. It was organized and lead by the Red Berets of Siyaad.

Hawiye was on the offensive so win for them is capture and indefinite occupation, while the Darod were on the defense and win for them was to keep their lands free.
