but we lived in this one suburb i don't really know the name of...and before the set date our housed used to get attacked daily by gunmen with gernades and what not...i was told the gun shots hit dawldsades crib but fortunately nothing happened to him...during the first day of the attacks my mother made a call to my father and he got 20 marexaans fully equipped and f*cked the whole place up and killed many moryons....the 20 guys stayed there for months and fought off all the moryons..we finally left when the president was leaving but man a lot of moryons died by our house they used to say "gaani garane [insert name of the family] yaa dhaley"..we went to afgooye...then to beledxawo ceydiid was following us all that time wallhi one of my cousins was born while gunshots were hitting out cars...then we meet up with siyaad bare at the kenyan border and the kenyans refused to airlift all the people who was with him only his immediate family..he said they are my family and he wouldn't leave but the marexaan made him get on the plane and the kenyans promised to guard us because they took our weapons...and let us into kenya all the way to garrisa and through out that time the degodi iyo garre iyo balaayaada kale were stoning us...

What I said was to the point; the objectives of the USC changed later when it turned to a qabiil war but targeting darood was not their main objective from the start. I never CLAIMED darood were NOT killed, raped and so onÂ…what I said was, so were other clansÂ….so were some of my own relatives, not just the darood ones.

A very close family friend of ours was raped by USC moroyaan, I was horrified to hear about it….she still has medical problems resulting from that. Yes, it probably did happen because she was mareexaan but does that mean that was “a main objective of the USC?” Like I said, you need to look at everything in a broader picture. There were militias who wanted revenge; there were some high of drugs, there were some who frankly did whatever they wanted. There is a difference between objective of a group and the actions of the thugs that work for them.

I had no love for the USC, they killed my uncle, another was killed by one of their warlords, they flattened my uncleÂ’s house and farm to the ground, looted my parentÂ’s houses and took our cars not to mention what happened to my own grandmother. The point I was making is you saying they were targeting darood is saying everything that happened to people of other clans didnÂ’t happen.

It wasn't the intention of the USC for the war to continue and civilians to be targeted. Unfortunately, the Darood soldiers were indiscriminately killing Hawiye civilians in Mogadishu which led to more added animosity and ill-feelings. When the regime was defeated, some of the USC members who lost loved ones took their anger on the defeated Darood. It could have been avoided if the dictator resigned and handed over power. But it didn't and today we are suffering because of that miscalculated decision.

A cousin of mine who was in the USC went all the way to the Border. Unfortunately on the way he hooked up with members of Al Itahad Al Islami and became one of them. He disappeared and was believed dead till he surfaced in 2000, just to ask for money to travel to God knows where. Aweys led many people to destruction
