Personally i think race is very important. If my wife does not know how to make kimis or canjeelo i will use her as a punching bag, which will probably result in a divorce in less a month . Also, my mother no longer speaks any languages other than Somali so i dont wish to be a translator.

I don't think datin' or marrying some else who's non somali is disrespecting to your mom. At least if she ain't ignorant then it shouldn't be a problem.

Granted most people are inclined to marry someone of their culture and nationality first and foremost and there's nothing wrong with that but people have to be a little more open minded about the possibility of that not happening especially if you live in a western nation where there are people of other races.
