Africa is screwed up because Africa has too many linguisitic groups, because food resources have been an issue there for a long time, and because Africa has lagged technologically for4 at least the last two thousand years (not counting North Africa, which has a different set of issues).

Africans love to blame others for their problems, but Asia went through a period of colonization just as debilitating, yet Asia is forging ahead. Why is that?

And what else did the British do? On the creation of Iraq in WWI the British rejected demands for Iraq to form a government with nationalistic leaders. Shorty after that, they employed RAF to BOMB the HELL out of tribesmen in Middle of the Euphrates, which in retrospect is the only time in HISTORY imperial power used air force.

By the way Israel would have never lasted as a nation without the British in WWI and the Americans after WWII.

The various Islamic empires conquered, occupied, colonized and assimiilated just as their predecessors and successors have. The British ruled more of the world at one time, but their methods were not qualitatively different.

You need to put your history into a context that includes Imperial Islam.

they paid the jizya, but they could operate in their communities

in fact, people preferred the Arabs compared to the Byzantines and Sassanians

Also, when the Abbasids came into power, it was non-Muslims paying jizya and ALL Muslims regardless of ethnicity paying the zakat. The Ummayads had the sense of Arab superiority and got the non-Arab Muslims to pay Jizya AND Zakat, which was obviously wrong and didn't fit into Islamic teachings of equality between Muslims.

So when two communities are paying taxes, I don't see whats up. Sure, the non-Muslims are 2nd class citizens, but "2nd class" back then was a bit different than how we imagine it now.

The conquests were rapid and quick. Most of the time, there was no resistance. The Arab armies weren't allowed to even mix in society by the orders of the Khalifa
