I've never heard in my life a Somali call themselves Arab. They may say they have relatives who are Arab (mostly Yemen) but thats as far as it is. Somalis consider themselves Africans but not like the madows of the rest of the continent.

About the paintings regarding the Anbiyaa & Khalifa; back in Somalia it was a normal thing, people used to have wall pictures of Ali (ra) and a lion, etc. Those paintings used to come from Iraq and people being Sufis, were cool with them. I remember seeing them as a kid.

on a serious note, the word "Arab" means "one with eloquence"...even in Somali, the word "carab" means "tongue" which is what we use for speech...the word the pre-Islamic Arabs called anyone who wasn't Arab was "ajam" which meant "one who is stupid in speech" and they didn't use it as an insult, but the Arab language itself is actually superior to any other language in that it's very expressive and paints a detailed picture with words...which is the reason scholars say the Qur'an was brought down by the best of angels to the best of humanity in the best of languages
