Firefly sis, the brother wasn't entirely correct....Allah did not say marry for Dhaqan, nor did Allah say anything about tribe, or language etc is more important than ISLAM!!!! A Good Muslim is better than anything else.

The hadith goes something like this....(it might be another one his talking about)

The Prophet (s.a.w) said: "A woman may be married for four reasons: for her property, her status, her beauty, and her religion; so try to get one who is religious, may you be blessed."
(Bukhari----I don't know the right no. though)

I personally believe Islam before anything else, however Islam is blessed religion and your allowed to marry someone even for their looks, but you have only yourself to blame if it isn't succesful.

Warsan-Star-Muslimah:- Jazakallahu Kheyr sis. That's the hadeeth I had in mind too. But I wanted him to verify it since he made the claim therefore the onus of proof rested on him. We should choose our spouse based on their taqwa like we're instructed to in the Qur'an, so if you find a Somali brother who is a good Muslim, thats great, and equally if you find a Non-Somali brother who is a good Muslim, that's good too. The couple join forces in order to build a place together in Paradise, and also to increase the Ummah by raising pious children. Culture and language are important, but the Deen should always take precedence.

In Minneapolis, it increasingly becoming common thing for Somali girls to marry outsiders. Every month, You'd see a white men(usually college students) marrying a Somali girl. Just three years ago, the biggest wedding was a black African American with an Isaq girl, and that was the biggest wedding in Minneapolis history

But, Somali guys aren't doing bad either, I regularly encounter Somali guys with White girls who are dressed like a typical Somali girl, which leads to my question

or they are entirely Kuffar and the women follows the man's ways (which is why Muslim women aren't supposed to marry non Muslim)

and maybe thats why you see these ajnabi gaalo women becoming Muslim because they are following into the man's culture and his religion
