The obligation of the 5 prayers on Muslims came about after the prophet (peace be upon him) made his journey from Al-Aqsa mosque to the upper heavens (in the Al-Me'raj journey). At the beginning, Allah duty-bounded 50 prayers daily, however, prophet Musa (peace be upon him) asked prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) to return to his creator Allah, and beseech for lesser obligation, in which Allah the merciful did, and reduced 5 prayers each time prophet Mohammed returned to him (about 9 times). At last, the 5 prayers (a day) were obligated on us, and the prophet (peace be upon him) bid all the Muslims to fulfill their prayers as part of their religious conviction. Therefore, prophet Mohammed (csw) prayed 5 times a day, alongside with Sunnah prayers (Salat Al-leyl etc).
As for the 2nd Q --- I always kept on hearing the same comments, and the saying that any person who adopts the Arabic language is called an Arab. I think that's why anthropologists demonstrated that language is one of the strongest causes binding/uniting ppl into one nation (this also explains the case of Egyptians).....
