You do realize these athletes have conditioned lung functions and can afford to maintain their athletic performances through a multitude of both medicinal and rehabilitation programs, not to mention endurance performance that provide them with 2x or even 3x oxygen respiration capabilities? It's a ludicrous claim to even compare them to the average long-term smoker who can neither afford the up-keep nor the rehab. Facts are facts. Cigarettes do affect endurance levels. They hinder the flow of oxygen from the lungs to the blood, then from the blood to the muscles. This is common knowledge. And is just one of the ways it affects a person's fitness.

I'm neither a recovering smoker nor a fanatic, I simply fail to see why walk around with a death sentence on your collar? Cigarettes contain every foul thing known to man including rat poison and urea. Do you hate yourself that much to be inhaling such chemicals?
