Re: Racism in Islam
Assalamu aleykum,
This racism issue exists, but i dont agree with people who bring out the race card when they have a few issues with marriage. You will find a man complaining about some family saying' they refused me their daughter because im black', the way i see it is if they refused you because of this reason then keep it moving it aint worth getting married into such a family anyway.
I dont get this inferiority complex amongst some non-arabs especially in the west, look at the history and you'll find that hundreds of scholars etc wernt Arabs, bukhari, muslim, abi dawud, ibn majaa etc etc. This aint an arab religion so i dont get this complex.
Another thing is, this racism works both ways. for example there are black people who will complain about racism, yet they will be the most extreme in racism. Im talking about muslims aswell, some actually believe that they are the real bani adaam and most of the prophets are black etc..

[quote="The_Patriot"][quote="Oxy-"]I doubt its overt racism, I think its more colourism.
And to be fair, nearly all ethnic people are colourist especially somalis. Across all non white nations there is a preference for a lighter complexion. The perception of beauty is based on this.
And to be honest, ive noticed when I see dark skinned somali nbabies I normally dont consider them as cute. However as soon as I see a light skinned somali baby, I automatically *without even thinking* say aww he/she is cute.

Yeah, light skin is beautiful Oxidant. If u, the most liberal, sensitive politicallhy correct person reacts thats way--what do u expect a neo natzi aristocrat british wanna be like me?
Also the question of good looks also is something to be considered. I have noticed i have gotten away with alot of stuff just because i am good looking. Jobs that i dont qualify-- police not giving me ticket--- people smiling genuinely at me in the mall, happy to see me, and then not happy to see my dark, unhandsome friends.
I think we are programmed to be attracted to pretty things. and those pretty things depends on our standard of what is pretty.
Having said that-- oxi ---walaal ---next time u see those lovely chubby cheeks abgaal dark kids-- please pinch them and call them pretty--automatically--hadaaba---no delay of thought at all. Change your evil ways.

Re: Racism in Islam
One of my teachers had experienced such strong rasicm from Arabs that he'd completely gone off the religion. To be fair, if a people have treated you cruelly and you then have to pray to your God in their language...you have to be very philosophical to get over the sting of it.

Re: Racism in Islam
Black....
dont be moved about your selfish teacher. You have to understand, humans are self centered, they see things in their best interests. Religion and God is beautiful because it asks you to remove yourself--from yourself--and believe something greater than yourself. Your teacher was not much of a believer to be turned off by people who mistreat her. Its ridiculous. I am always anti arabs--in saudi, arabs is NOt equal to muslims.
Ka .....
thank u darling--i lof u too.

Re: Racism in Islam
The irony is the Somali people on average are dark and the so-called thin features are not even that widespread. If everybody had their photo as an avator you would never witness the amount of insulting rhetoric displayed here. As for why it even exists, Basra is closer to the truth. It is a Euro-centric world we live in even if Euro-centric pop culture is now seeking non-Euro features.

Re: Racism in Islam
For Africans maybe, but Asians were obsessed with light skin way before they came across white people. Double eye-lids, that perhaps is something Indha yar envy Europeans for but Indians, Pakistanis and their Asian brethren in general are just light skin obsessed and that is not something that can be blamed on Europeans.Voltage wrote:The irony is the Somali people on average are dark and the so-called thin features are not even that widespread. Re: Racism in Islam
There is no such thing as Racism in an overwhelming exagerrated sense. Racism is a political tool used by people to further their own interests for centuries and millenias. It doesn't really exist that much. Just because a man from Asia refuses to marry a Nigerian or White girl doesn't mean he is racist. Just because I promote my people doesn't mean Im racist, it just means that I am furthering my own interests. It isn't in my interests for my family members to intermingle with non-East African people. Nobody wakes up in the morning and hates a certain race and ethnic group for no reason, that is beyond rationale. It's all about taste.
We clearly need a re-definition of the word Racism. It is nothing more than a spiced up politically motivated system just like fascism etc.

I hope there is a repeat of this ..because I would like to see it.
Re: Racism in Islam
It's not racist to consider Nigerians unattractive.

Re: Racism in Islam
It is racist to categorically define a race or a nation as unattractive. If you were to look at an individual and decide that, that is perfectly legitimate. But who is to say the next person of that race or nation you meet will not seem attractive to you?union wrote:It's not racist to consider Nigerians unattractive.
Re: Racism in Islam
Attractive Nigerians are an exception. I've met many Nigerians, and to me they had a disproportionate number of ugly people. This is my own personal opinion, as beauty is in the eye of a beholder. They have a certain set of characteristics which I find a big turnoff, and some exhibit those traits in a more pronounced way than others.Voltage wrote:It is racist to categorically define a race or a nation as unattractive. I also don't generally find Asians to be attractive either. Am I racist against Asians too?
