there was another evacuation during the isaaq civil wars in 92-93 and 84-96 i saw a UN estimate for 1998 that had hargiesa at 70,000 people.. this is resonable becuase the re-settlement was continuing.

You should not forget that isaaq refugee camps like Harti -sheikh, rabasso and abukar where as big as several somali cities in the south.
Harti shiekh alone was 200,000 plus in 1991.

Hargeisa's population has increased and is today at its highest ever; only mogadishu is/was larger. No other city comes even close, the next closes being boosaaso which Hargeisa is 7x larger. Just Hargeisa is larger than the majority of the large cities in the south combined (beledweyne, Baidoa, kismaayo, jowhar, brava, afgooy + several others), let alone all the cities in Somaliland + Puntland + nomads. I still don't see how rovingmadness came up with north = 20% of the 10mil.

I doubt that figure is true for majerteen however.. it would be a fantastically large population..

if it is true then that means that you have not grown as fast as others.
or that you faced a disastrous drop..

but if MJ was 100,000 in 1890 then if you grew at the same rate as everyone, you would be over 3 million people today..
and according to the 1975 census....

since bari was 500,000 , nugaal 200,000 and mudug 500,000.. it would not be enough and you would have to be 30-50% of xamars population and all of kismayo as well.. or maybe a big chunk of you population immigrated to yemen and oman and became assimilated.

juzeme isaaq was approximatley 200,000 according to british estimates from 1909...
if you account for the growth rate, this is accurate..

The monk maybe right about majerteen, i believe the figure for all harti except for dhulos and warsangeli, all the others are grouped under majerteeniya...
this could be accurate becuase Dhulos +warsangeli combined were 120,000 in 1910..

Some sources i found say mogdishu population has dropped to 2 million
