Don’t be silly. The Pope has no real political authority anymore; he’s just the symbolic head of one of the world’s largest religions.
The current Pope is very orthodox in his religious stances (and yes he was elected because of his scholarly works in theology, he was a professor of theology), and even he supports the validity of the theory of evolution as the head of the Catholic Church. A church which had for centuries been responsible for the murder and persecution of scientists who dared disagree with creationist/literalist religious teachings.
I think the problem is that most Muslim clergy have very little secular education and are thus prone to make foolish pronouncements in regards to science….like ‘evolution is not true’
